Principal Software Engineer (Application Networking) - Platform Infrastructure

As Principal Software Engineer, you define the architectural direction for Elastic Cloud’s application networking, including Ingress, private connectivity, DNS, and security controls. You’ll lead cross-organizational initiatives, elevate reliability, and mentor engineers while partnering with product and senior staff to shape the platform. This role offers influence over high-scale networking systems and the chance to drive architectural clarity and cost efficiency. You’ll work in a distributed environment delivering secure, observable cloud services. Compensaciones / Beneficios competitive pay health coverage for you and your family flexible locations and schedules generous vacation days donation matching up to $2000 volunteer hours (up to 40 hours/year) Responsabilidades Set the technical direction for major application networking initiatives from proposal to GA Lead development of Ingress, private connectivity, DNS, and security controls at scale for Elastic Cloud Identify and resolve performance, reliability, and operability issues Lead multi-quarter, cross-organizational projects and guide delivery Improve operational quality and lead end-to-end incident investigations and on-call rotation Mentor engineers and act as a trusted technical advisor across the org Collaborate with product management and senior stakeholders on trade-offs and roadmap direction Champion security, stability, and cost-efficiency improvements Untangle complexity and bring architectural clarity across the platform Requisitos principales

Experience designing high-performance, scalable distributed systems at staff/principal level Deep expertise in application networking and cloud-native architecture Strong knowledge of Ingress, private connectivity, DNS, and security controls Proven ability to own projects end-to-end and lead multiple xqbhyrx engineers Experience operating high-availability SaaS platforms and improving reliability Track record of using AI to accelerate development and debugging Strong collaboration across functions and autonomous, transparent communication Ability to influence direction across teams without formal authority collaboration across functions leadership and mentorship clear, asynchronous communication Kubernetes networking (Cilium, external-dns, Envoy Gateway, Crossplane) AWS, Azure, or GCP networking ecosystems Design, operation, and evolution of Ingress, private connectivity, DNS, and security controls
