Engineer 1 (Design)

• Manager Note: Our goal is to get either new grads or those new to the workforce. We require an engineering bachelors degree. No Computer Science. EIT certifications are a plus.
• The Engineer Design contractor position assists in the planning, design, and development of technical standards for gas distribution infrastructure projects. The right candidate must be a self-starter, excellent communicator, critical thinker and able to make sound decisions.

• As our Engineer in the design group, a typical day might include:
• Working on gas storage or gas fueling station assignments
• Performing assignments involving the design of components or functionality of pipeline products.
• Involved in the planning and design of mechanical equipment and components involving maintenance of mechanical equipment.
• Performing system balances to determine the best overall solution to solve system issues or identify system low points and methods to best solve them.
• Provide oversight and support for construction activities, * Creating a safe work environment by putting safety first.
• Understand the process used for planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance.
• Understanding the functions and activities of various internal departments involved in design, construction, and maintenance,
• Understanding design practices and work processes,
• Using all software applications used in design.
• Understanding industry and company design standards.
• Supporting design standard and criteria development for the system,
• Supporting construction and maintenance teams during day-to-day operations.
• Estimating material for projects.
• Transmitting construction packages and supporting specifications.

What candidate will need to qualify for this position:

• BA/BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil or General)
• 1-3 years of progressive Engineering experience
• Or
• Equivalent academic education and experience

Certifications/Licenses:

• Preferred: Engineer in Training (E.I.T.), * The Engineer 1 position requires 0-3 years of related experience and an accredited bachelor’s degree with a focus in Mechanical, Civil or General engineering experience.
• Responsible for applying engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to design and construct power related systems.
• Supports estimate preparation, develops design options, and prepares construction specifications.
• Provide guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews for approved contractors as they develop design solutions, cost estimates, and construction packages., * Project Management
• Ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
• Computer Assisted Design/Geographic Information System - basic proficiency
• MS Office - advanced proficiency
• CAD/GIS - intermediate proficiency
• Introductory engineering knowledge
• Basic problem-solving skills
• Limited discretion making independent decisions based on procedure and review with supervisor
• Basic discipline software knowledge
• Strong work ethic

• Ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff and/or vendors.
