Design Engineer

As a Design Engineer at Metriport, youll spend your time understanding customer workflows, designing the best solution to those problems, and implementing your own designs. If youre someone who is excited by broad ownership and making consequential decisions - while taking on work that others might consider way too much - you might be a good fit.

What Youll Do

Build and maintain the design system and establish a coherent design language - components, spacing, typography, color - that is simple.

Lead frontend implementation and set direction on the frontend, review implementation against design intent, and write production code where it matters most. Youre strong enough in React to be the authority in the room.

Talk to, and advocate for, users understand their workflows, form an opinionated view on the right solution, and drive toward it.

Solve data-dense UI problems and build interfaces that surface complex, high-volume medical data. Make hard layout and performance tradeoffs and know when good enough is correct and when it isnt.

Were a small, high-output team, mostly former founders including YC alumni, and we operate with real autonomy and almost no bureaucracy. We hire on competence, not pedigree. Leaders are in the office six days a week, and we generally expect the team to be available six days a week too. Not because we count hours, but because theres always more wood to chop when revolutionizing how tomorrow’s healthcare providers deliver care to their patients today. We trust our team to take the time off they need and weve never said no to a time off request.

You have an entrepreneurial mindset and a strong sense of ownership. You dont wait to be told whats broken. Instead, you believe you can figure out any problem that lands in your lap even outside your exact domain. When someone scopes something for three weeks, you ask why it cant be done in three days, and you also know the difference between shipping a fast v0 and cutting a corner that comes back to bite you. You walk the tightrope between craft and speed without falling off either side., * Design instincts: You produce Figma work that is considered and defensible - with clear opinions on typography, hierarchy, and interaction patterns.
