Job description

Your new company

A rapidly growing organisation operating at the forefront of housing, sustainability and data innovation is seeking a Data Engineer to support the development of a new Azure-based data platform. The business is delivering a large-scale programme focused on improving housing stock, supporting retrofit initiatives and using data to drive better decision-making across a complex property portfolio.

Your new role

You’ll join a growing data function, working closely with senior technical stakeholders to develop and maintain a modern cloud-based data platform.

This is a hands-on Data Engineering role focused on building scalable data solutions, integrating multiple data sources and supporting the backend architecture that powers reporting, analytics and business-critical data products. Strong Python development experience is essential, as Python is the core technology used across the platform’s backend services and data pipelines.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Building and maintaining ETL/ELT data pipelines
  • Developing and supporting API integrations
  • Writing Python scripts to ingest, cleanse and transform data
  • Supporting the migration of existing processes into Azure Data Factory
  • Maintaining data models used for analytics and reporting
  • Supporting Azure-based data services and platform operations
  • Troubleshooting data quality and performance issues
  • Producing and maintaining technical documentation
  • Working closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver data-driven solutions

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Proven experience in a Data Engineer or similar position
  • Strong Python development skills with experience building backend data solutions
  • Excellent SQL and relational database knowledge
  • Experience developing and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure technologies
  • Experience integrating and consuming APIs
  • Knowledge of Git, version control and CI/CD practices
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Candidates with previous experience working with property, housing, asset management or real estate data will be particularly attractive for this opportunity. Experience within retrofit, decarbonisation, energy efficiency, housing improvement or sustainability-focused programmes would also be highly advantageous.

Exposure to housing associations, local government, utilities, PropTech organisations or organisations managing large property portfolios would be beneficial.

What you’ll get in return:

  • £400-450 per day
  • Outside IR35 contract
  • Initial 6-month engagement
  • Hybrid working with 2 days per week in the London office (Tuesday anchor day)
  • Opportunity to work on a high-profile data transformation programme
  • Exposure to Azure, Python and modern data platform technologies
  • Meaningful work supporting large-scale property and retrofit initiatives
  • Immediate start available
