Frontend Engineer

You’ll join the Engineering team at LDMS as a Frontend Engineer, working within a team and reporting to an Engineering Team Lead. You’ll own frontend delivery for the features your team ships, from design review through to production, working to the standards and patterns your team has set.

Our stack is React and TypeScript on the frontend with MUI, Java and Spring Boot on the backend, and PostgreSQL with schema-per-tenant multi-tenancy underneath, all cloud-hosted on AWS. Testing is Vitest, WebdriverIO and Playwright, running in CI.

You’ll work within the frontend standards and patterns set for your team, and feed into them where you see a better approach. You’ll be trusted to decide how a feature gets built, to push back on a design when the implementation cost does not justify it, and to keep moving when the requirements are still unclear. Supporting junior engineers is part of the job.

Technical Skills

Design and build small to medium frontend features end to end in React and TypeScript with minimal oversight

Make sound technical choices within established patterns and explain the trade-offs when asked

Work within the established component library and UI patterns, extending them properly rather than working around them

Write tests at unit, integration and end-to-end level, and argue for the coverage that matters

Consider performance and accessibility in your own code and deal with the obvious problems before review

Identify and raise frontend technical debt clearly, with a view on what it is costing

Delivery

Plan and deliver frontend work end to end, managing your own time and raising risks early

Pull out dependencies and unknowns at the start of work, particularly where the frontend depends on a backend contract that does not exist yet

Own the quality of what you ship through to production, then watch for regressions after release

Give reliable estimates at feature level and flag slippage early rather than late

Keep delivery moving when designs or requirements are unsettled, while chasing the clarity you need

Impact

Contribute consistently to your team’s goals, to the point where your absence would be felt on delivery

Help junior engineers get better through informal mentoring on day-to-day frontend questions

Raise process improvements and follow them through when you take ownership

Share what works from your own delivery so the team picks it up rather than solving the same problem again

Communication

Adapt how you communicate to the audience, with technical detail for engineers and clear summaries for product and stakeholders

Contribute substantively to design reviews

Give specific, useful feedback in code review, and take it the same way

Work directly with product and design, and raise disagreements early and professionally rather than letting them sit

Write documentation other people can pick up and use without coming back to you

AI and Innovation

Review AI-assisted code to the same standard as hand-written code, and check that generated tests assert the requirement rather than the implementation

Use AI to accelerate delivery without transferring the cost to reviewers or to long-term maintainability

Keep design decisions with the engineer, and do not let generated code reshape component structure by default

Follow the team’s agreed approach to AI-assisted work, and keep the rules and skills for your area current as things change

Take responsibility for what carries your name and what you commit to, whatever helped produce it

Essential

Solid commercial frontend experience building and maintaining production React applications in TypeScript

Strong React and TypeScript fundamentals, including component composition, state management and typing that holds up under review

Experience building with MUI or a comparable component library

Experience working within a design system or established component library, including extending it properly rather than forking it

You can take a UI idea, whether a sketch, a design file or a conversation, and turn it into something buildable

You care about the detail. Not just whether it works, but whether it feels right. You take pride in UI and UX that is genuinely good

Solid across unit, integration and end-to-end testing, for example Vitest, WebdriverIO or Playwright

Comfortable with Git, and with builds and tests running in a CI/CD pipeline such as Jenkins

Able to make progress when requirements or designs are incomplete, while chasing the clarity you need

Clear communicator in writing and in person, with updates and technical explanations that people can act on

Desirable

Accessibility experience, including working to WCAG standards

Frontend performance work, including measuring against a baseline rather than guessing

Experience with Docker or other containerisation tools

Experience with cloud-hosted systems on AWS

An understanding of what it takes to build software in a financial or otherwise regulated environment

Experience using AI-assisted or agentic development well as part of day-to-day engineering

Experience supporting or mentoring graduate and junior engineers
