Associate Java/Scala Developer

Join a dynamic hybrid role in New York City as an Associate Java/Scala Developer, where you’ll help build and optimize high-performance microservices that support real-time trading and execution platforms. This 6+ month opportunity is ideal for a developer with strong Java and Scala experience who enjoys solving complex technical problems in a fast-paced financial services environment. Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable microservices using Java and Spring Boot for high-throughput, low-latency systems.
• Collaborate with quants, product partners, and engineering teams to turn execution strategies into reliable production code.
• Improve application speed and stability through performance tuning, concurrency optimization, and memory management.
• Support the development of controls that help protect trading workflows, including pre-trade checks and automated safeguards.
• Build and maintain solutions across the trade lifecycle, from order management through execution, clearing, and settlement.
• Contribute to systems that process market data and support algorithmic trading workflows.
• Participate in testing, automation, and CI/CD practices to help deliver high-quality software.

• Strong core Java experience, with the ability to work in multithreaded and concurrent application environments.
• Hands-on production experience with Scala and functional programming concepts.
• Experience building or supporting JVM-based microservices using Spring Boot.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes in modern application environments.
• Knowledge of messaging technologies such as Kafka, Solace, or Aeron.
• Experience working with low-latency data stores and relational or non-relational databases.
• Understanding of software testing practices and automated delivery pipelines.
• Financial services experience and a strong understanding of trading workflows.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.
• Exposure to Akka, Play, or hybrid Java/Scala application architectures.
• Knowledge of market data structures and regulatory considerations related to trading systems.
• Experience with performance analysis and tuning in latency-sensitive environments.
• Familiarity with Spring Cloud and enterprise integration patterns.
