Data Security Engineer

Insight Global is seeking three Data Security Engineers to support one of the largest energy providers in the Midwest. These individuals will join the Cybersecurity organization and play a critical role in designing, implementing, and enhancing enterprise-wide data security initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Microsoft Purview, data governance, compliance, privacy, and cloud security technologies, with a focus on protecting sensitive enterprise data across complex cloud environments.

This role will partner closely with cybersecurity, infrastructure, compliance, legal, and business teams to develop and maintain data protection strategies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while reducing organizational risk. Candidates should be passionate about data security, information governance, and emerging security technologies.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain enterprise data security solutions across cloud and on-prem environments.

• Leverage Microsoft Purview to support data discovery, classification, labeling, governance, compliance, and insider risk initiatives.

• Develop and manage Data Loss Prevention (DLP), encryption, cloud data protection, and privacy controls.

• Conduct data security risk assessments, vulnerability analyses, and third-party security reviews.

• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to establish best practices for data protection and information governance.

• Monitor and respond to data security incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.

• Track and report key cybersecurity metrics and KPIs related to data security programs.

• Review and enhance data security policies, standards, and procedures to align with evolving regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

• Support compliance, privacy, and insider risk programs through policy development and technology implementation.

• 4+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview.

• 2+ years supporting Cybersecurity Environments

• Experience implementing and administering:

• Data Loss Prevention (DLP)

• Information Protection

• Data Classification

• Sensitivity Labels

• Insider Risk Management

• Data Governance programs

• Strong understanding of data security concepts including:

• Data Discovery

• Encryption

• Data Masking

• Data Tagging

• Information Governance

• Experience securing cloud environments and enterprise data platforms.

• Ability to conduct risk assessments and identify security vulnerabilities.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to partner across technical and business teams. * Experience with Azure Security technologies and services.

• Experience supporting multi-cloud environments (Azure, AWS, and/or GCP).

• Knowledge of compliance and privacy frameworks.

• Experience with Active Directory administration and identity management.

• PowerShell, .NET (C# or VB), or other scripting experience.

• Security Operations Center (SOC) experience.

• Cybersecurity certifications such as:

• CISSP

• CISM

• CCSP

• OSCP

• GIAC Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Microsoft Defender Suite

• Microsoft Information Protection (MIP)

• Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM)

• Regulatory compliance experience (NERC CIP, SOX, PCI, HIPAA, etc.)

• Network security fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, Access Management)
