Job description

We are looking for a hands-on Mainframe Engineer to support a targeted Data Archival & Retention program. The engineer will help establish a repeatable archive and restore lifecycle across one or more claims-related business processes. The role will focus on archival, validation, reconciliation, evidence generation, and restore/rehydration capabilities across DB2 and VSAM environments. Responsibilities:

Assess existing archival jobs, scripts, utilities, and batch processes.
Analyze DB2 and VSAM data structures and dependencies supporting claims-related applications.
Design and implement data archival workflows and processes.
Design and implement restore, recovery, and data rehydration workflows.
Develop and maintain JCL and mainframe batch jobs supporting archival and restore processes.
Integrate archival processes with enterprise scheduling tools.
Perform data validation, reconciliation, and integrity checks.
Generate technical evidence and documentation to support audit and compliance requirements.
Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
Create technical runbooks, operational procedures, and support documentation.
Support production-readiness activities, deployment planning, and operational handoff.
Collaborate with application, database, infrastructure, and business teams to ensure archival and retention requirements are met.

Requirements

8+ years of hands-on Mainframe engineering experience.
Strong experience with IBM DB2 for z/OS.
Strong experience with VSAM.
Strong JCL development and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with mainframe batch processing.
Experience integrating batch processes with enterprise scheduling tools.
Hands-on experience with data archival, restore, recovery, or rehydration processes.
Understanding of data retention and data lifecycle management.
Experience performing data validation and reconciliation.
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
Ability to analyze existing mainframe applications, jobs, dependencies, and utilities.
