Solution Architect

• Rate: £695 per day (inside IR35)
• Location: London travel required.
• Working arrangement: Hybrid, with occasional travel
• Contract length: Six-month rolling contract
• Clearance requirement: BPSS

Your new company

You will be joining a major UK government transformation programme supporting critical national infrastructure within a complex borders and trade technology estate.

The programme delivers environment management, integration and testing capabilities, enterprise application maintenance, Java-based feature development and hybrid-cloud solutions.

Your new role

As a Solution Architect, you will work with technical delivery teams, design authorities, business stakeholders and engineering teams to define and govern architectural solutions across a complex enterprise environment.

You will provide architectural leadership across cloud and on-premises services, supporting enterprise integration, application development and hybrid-cloud delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Produce high-quality solution architecture deliverables and design artefacts.
• Create and present architectural designs through governance and Design Authority forums.
• Define end-to-end integration solutions across cloud and on-premises environments.
• Support the design and implementation of Java-based enterprise applications and services.
• Produce architecture documentation, UML diagrams, interface specifications and data models.
• Collaborate with development, DevOps, testing, infrastructure and operations teams.
• Design solutions using AWS services and hybrid-cloud deployment models.
• Ensure compliance with relevant government standards, security requirements and delivery frameworks.
• Support the integration of COTS products and third-party services.
• Provide technical leadership throughout the project life cycle.

Essential skills and experience

• Strong understanding of architectural methodologies, frameworks and governance processes.
• Experience producing solution designs, High-Level Designs, Low-Level Designs, architecture decision records and Design Authority documentation.
• Experience using Jira and Confluence.
• Strong UML modelling and diagram creation experience.
• Knowledge of Java 17 or Java 21.
• Experience working with XML and JSON schemas and data structures.
• Strong understanding of relational databases.
• Experience designing solutions with AWS services, including EC2, EKS and S3.
• Experience with RabbitMQ and enterprise messaging technologies.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to operate across complex technical delivery environments.

Desirable skills and experience

• Service-Oriented Architecture experience.
• Experience working in hybrid-cloud environments.
• COTS product integration experience.
• Experience delivering AWS-hosted enterprise solutions.
• Previous experience within government, the public sector or another regulated industry.
• Experience working on nationally critical infrastructure programmes.
