System Security Engineer

Everyone knows security needs to be “baked in” to a system architecture-you actually know how to bake it in. You can identify and implement ways to harden systems and reduce their attack surface. What if you could use your cyber engineering skills to design and develop secure systems for Navy and Marine Corps? We’re looking for an engineer who can create solutions for government that will withstand even the most advanced cyber threats.

As a system security engineer at Booz Allen, you’ll support mission-critical cybersecurity and systems security engineering efforts for the expeditionary and combat platforms responsible for shaping key requirements, system integration, and delivering secure, resilient systems to the fleet. You’ll coordinate work with inhouse teams and OEMs to identify the right mix of tools and techniques to translate your client’s IT needs and future goals into a plan that will enable secure and effective solutions. We need to come up with the best solutions, so you’ll investigate new techniques, break free from the legacy model, and go where the industry is going. You’ll lead the team through a critical approach to network design, providing alternatives and customizing solutions, to maintain a balance of security and operational mission needs.

Your technical expertise will be vital as you help customers overcome their most difficult challenges by integrating secure practices like zero-trust principles and proactive threat-mitigation strategies to safeguard complex government system. You’ll apply systems security engineering practices tailored for Naval systems to build secure-by-design capabilities, enhance technical resilience, and ensure secure delivery of mission systems to warfighters. You’ll be able to broaden your skill set into areas like defining the next generation of the Navy’s fleet through end-to-end vulnerability lifecycle management and acquisition system authorization activities, ensuring the platform meets rigorous Department of War (DoW) security standards and maintaining compliance across their operational lifespan while building peace of mind in a critical infrastructure.

• 5+ years of experience with systems security engineering and RMF supporting DON or DoW programs
• Experience with cybersecurity engineering and supporting analysis, design, integration, testing, and sustainment of secure architectures across the platform lifecycle, including evaluating system vulnerabilities and recommending mission-focused mitigation strategies
• Experience with DoW compliance frameworks and tools such as Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST 800-53, STIG viewer, and eMASS
• Experience supporting vulnerability scanning, remediation workflows, and risk assessments
• Ability to coordinate with and own IT, risk, and operations teams to maintain secure and compliant environment
• Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science
• Intermediate Certification such as Security+ Certification

Nice If You Have:

• Experience administering cybersecurity tools such as Tenable, ACAS, vulnerability management, and DLP platforms
• Experience reviewing and generating plans and procedures such as Media Protection Plans, Access Control Plans, or Incident Response Plans
• Ability to update Confluence and Jira and assist with briefings
• Ability to coordinate directly with engineering teams and OEMs to actively remediate finding

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $69,400.00 to $158,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
