Data Engineers

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will work with modern cloud technologies and large, complex datasets to develop robust data platforms, pipelines, and analytical solutions. You’ll collaborate with a wide range of technical and business stakeholders, helping to ensure that trusted, high-quality data is available to support patient and donor services, research, and continuous improvement throughout NHSBT., A Senior Data Engineer works with data created and stored across NHSBT within the Data Engineering Team, as part of the Data Product Centre.

They play a pivotal role in ensuring that data flows smoothly, remains consistent, and is available for decision-making, insights and analytics through the available platforms. This involves development and expansion of the platform of choice and ensuring operational efficiency, routine maintenance, issues and incident resolution, performance monitoring and reporting.

The Senior Data Engineers are subject matter experts in data engineering, helping to collate, curate and support analytical use of the extensive data generated from the various products and services across the organisation to support;-

• Patient and Donor Care: Enabling access to relevant patient/donor information for healthcare professionals.
• Service Management: Improving services and supporting decision-making for a broad spectrum of services including logistics, manufacturing and genomics.
• Data Analysis: Identifying trends, predicting outcomes, and understanding the quality of care being delivered. Research and Development, What we offer:

• You are qualified to post grad diploma level (preferably in computer science, data analysis, data engineering, or related subject) or equivalent experience.
• To be able to demonstrate experience in data engineering/data warehousing role, including working with complex database developments., * In depth experience of data engineering across the development, testing and deployment stages.
• Experience of developing and maintaining data warehouse solutions using MS SQL toolset.
• Experience in setting up large-scale processing systems or data infrastructure on a cloud platform.
• Experience of linking and transforming numerous large and complex datasets, using ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to optimise analytical performance and data reliability.
• Experience in collection, curation, management and manipulation of NHS datasets.
• Experience of developing and implementing large and complex information management and reporting systems, including provision of data internally or via other third-party stakeholders.
• Experience of monitoring, identifying and escalating data quality issues and designing ETL processes to incorporate data validation techniques.
• Experience managing deployments and transitions from DEV to PROD, supporting live service activation and environment coordination, with hand-on involvement in CI/CD pipelines and Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
• Knowledge of data warehousing using MS SQL Server Tools.
• Experience with MS Azure technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake Storage etc.
• Knowledge of data modelling, architectural principles and big data tools.
• Experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex data engineering problems, situations and/or requirements to make informed judgements in formulating solutions and recommending/deciding on best course of action.
• Demonstrable experience working systematically whilst applying self and others to drive for results across a number of complex projects with numerous interdependencies.
• Demonstrable experience managing projects and ensuring timely delivery of data solutions.
• Advanced expertise in business intelligence tools, applications, and systems.
• You have developed systems and processes to improve the use of business intelligence tools and techniques employed in your organisation.
• You have a good understanding of the relationship between the approach to pipeline developments and platform performance.
• You are experienced in peer reviewing code and promoting the application of a full range of refactoring techniques to enhance the lifespan of the code library.
• You actively seek out emerging analytical tools and techniques and find ways to apply them.
