Data Engineer - Contract Newcastle upon Tyne - Hybrid Day rate: Negotiable Initial 6 Month Contract Overview We are seeking a Data Engineer to support a major Data Warehouse migration programme, transitioning a well-established estate from SQL Server to Microsoft Fabric. As the programme enters its next phase, the team requires an additional Data Engineer to work alongside the Lead Data Engineer and provide hands-on support across key data engineering and business intelligence activities. Whilst the wider programme centres around Microsoft Fabric, the immediate need is for someone who can strengthen the team’s capabilities around SQL development, Power BI, and Semantic Modelling, helping to ensure the successful delivery of both the migration and future data initiatives. Essential Skills & Experience Strong commercial experience with SQL Server and advanced SQL development. Proven experience developing and maintaining Power BI solutions. Strong experience designing, developing and managing Semantic Models. Experience working within Data Warehouse environments. Understanding of data modelling, ETL/ELT processes and data transformation. Ability to work effectively within a collaborative Data Engineering team. Experience supporting large-scale data migration or data transformation projects. Desirable Skills & Experience Exposure to Microsoft Fabric. Experience with Lakehouse architectures. Exposure to PySpark Notebooks. Experience migrating data solutions from SQL Server to cloud-based platforms. This role would suit a Data Engineer who enjoys operating at the intersection of Data Engineering, Power BI, and Data Modelling. The biggest skills gaps within the team are around SQL development, Semantic Modelling, and Power BI delivery, so we’re particularly interested in candidates who can bring expertise in these areas and make an immediate impact.
