Job description

Lead a squad across architecture, development, delivery, and production operations while remaining hands-on with production code and complex technical challenges
Own system architecture, API design, technical decisions, design reviews, and code quality
Partner with Product Managers on roadmaps, delivery plans, and priorities
Provide technical leadership, mentoring, one-to-ones, and feedback to support engineers development
Drive continuous improvement and set standards for how the team builds, tests, and ships software
Champion AI and agentic coding tools across the software development lifecycle and drive process improvements and modern techniques

Requirements

Strong experience providing technical or team leadership within a software engineering team
Strong backend development skills with C# .NET; experience with other object-oriented languages may also be considered
Strong system design experience, particularly with distributed systems and microservices
Frontend experience with Vue.js, React, or modern Angular
Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases
Production experience with AWS, ideally including SQS, DynamoDB, S3, ECS, and Lambda
Experience owning CI/CD and release processes, such as GitHub Actions
Hands-on experience with Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar agentic tools, and a clear view of effective AI adoption
Collaborative and pragmatic approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to explain technical decisions to engineering and business stakeholders
Experience in payments, FX, or another regulated industry is beneficial

About the company

We are a global financial services company rebuilding our international payments platform within our Corporate Payments division. This senior Software Developer / Team Lead role combines technical ownership, hands-on development, and responsibility for team growth. The position is based in Bracknell, with the option to work from home most of the time and join colleagues in our office twice a week. We offer a salary of up to £95,000, a bonus, 23 days of holiday rising to 28, a day off for your birthday, pension, life assurance, income protection, critical illness cover, and healthcare.
