Information Security Officer

Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with assigned entities and serve as information security point of contact on all security-related matters. Assure successful implementation and functionality of security requirements and appropriate IT policies, standards and procedures that are consistent with the organization’s mission and goals. Participate in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure protection of sensitive data and information systems. Support data classification and acceptable usage policy. Assist with the cybersecurity awareness program by designing, launching, and assessing training content and simulated phishing emails to include monthly enterprise and targeted campaigns. Advise on security controls to be implemented to reduce risk and collaborate with risk analysts on risk and vulnerabilities identified for supported entities and associated third parties. Advise assigned entities in developing, maintaining, and testing disaster recovery plans, and serve as the primary liaison for audits involving their information systems. This role also tracks and guides remediation efforts for audit findings to support strong and compliant security practices. Present to agency executive team members on Information Security program.

The successful candidate is comfortable working in information systems by protecting confidentiality, ensuring integrity, and maintaining availability. They are an inquisitive, constant learner, open to observation and feedback, and an effective communicator. They are highly organized and can manage their time and priorities effectively to meet organization standards. They establish and maintain effective working relationships while working independently and within a team. To be considered for this role, you must have a bachelor’s degree in Computer or Cyber Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related field, or have four (4) years of current and progressive work experience with computer system security activities.

Professional work experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Security certifications from a qualified vendor, such as SANS, ISC2, ISACA, CompTIA or EC Council, may be substituted for up to one year of experience.

North Dakota Information Technology Department (NDIT) is seeking an Information Security Officer for our Cybersecurity division. Candidates for this position can live anywhere in the United States, except for California. If selected candidate lives within a 50 miles radius of NDIT offices in Bismarck or Fargo, North Dakota they will work on site one day a week. Otherwise, this position will work remotely full time. Preference will be given to those living in the State of North Dakota or a bordering community.
