Job description

Location: Birmingham (Hybrid Working) Contract: Initial 6-Month Contract

Hays are working in partnership with a local council to recruit a Data and Intelligence Officer to support the Children and Families Directorate. This is an exciting opportunity for a data-focused professional to play a key role in improving data quality, intelligence reporting, and service performance to help deliver better outcomes for children, young people, and families.

The successful candidate will support the development and delivery of high-quality data processes, products, and reporting solutions across the Directorate. Working closely with operational teams, front-line services, and corporate colleagues, you will help ensure data is accurate, reliable, and used effectively to inform decision-making, improve service delivery, and support statutory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of high-quality data processes, products, and reporting solutions across Children’s and Families Services.
  • Promote the importance of accurate and timely data recording, ensuring information is maintained to a high standard at all times.
  • Improve operational insight, performance reporting, and intelligence products to support leaders in making evidence-based decisions.
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the Directorate, working closely with front-line teams to ensure services are informed by robust data and intelligence.
  • Support the assurance and continuous improvement of data quality by identifying weaknesses, inconsistencies, and gaps in existing datasets.
  • Develop and implement proactive plans to address data quality issues and improve confidence in management information.
  • Assist in the compilation, validation, and submission of statutory returns, ensuring deadlines are met and information is accurate.
  • Support the design and delivery of data quality assurance frameworks, including standard operating procedures, system testing, data cleansing, and user guidance.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience working in a data, intelligence, performance, or analytical role.
  • Strong understanding of data quality management, validation, and reporting processes.
  • Experience producing meaningful insights from data to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working with large data sets and management information systems.
  • Knowledge of data quality assurance frameworks, data cleansing, and governance principles.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to explain complex information to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience supporting statutory returns and performance reporting would be advantageous.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using reporting or business intelligence tools.
  • Previous local government, children’s services, education, or public sector experience is highly desirable.
