Travel

This opportunity requires the successful candidate to travel to our research laboratory and unique outdoor testing facilities, in Buxton, Derbyshire SK17 9JN, at least one day per week., We are looking for a Geospatial Analyst to join the Geospatial Team, part of the Analysis & Risk Group within HSE’s Science, Engineering and Analysis Division. This is an excellent opportunity to use your Geographical Information systems (GIS) skills to contribute to valuable operational and scientific projects, providing services and undertaking research and analysis to support HSE’s regulation and enforcement duties.

You will be part of a team of geospatial specialists and there will be opportunities to collaborate with scientific and technical experts across many other disciplines. Your responsibilities will include: • Undertaking scientific research and analysis to support HSE science and analysis projects, applying geospatial approaches for data processing, statistical analysis and visualisation. • Supporting the development and application of technical processes for the ongoing maintenance of HSE’s National Population Database. • Presenting outputs of scientific research and analysis to technical and non-technical audiences in the form of reports, scientific papers, presentations and meetings. • Providing technical input for submission of proposals and helping to identify opportunities to broaden the reach of the geospatial team’s offerings inside and outside of HSE. • Collaborating with other scientists and analysts in HSE in multi-disciplinary projects. Providing geographical insight and ensuring that spatial relationships are effectively considered in analytical work., We’ll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

Progression through pay ranges is subject to annual pay awards as permitted within annual Civil Service pay remit guidance and negotiations with Trade Unions.

Requirements

• Strong skills and experience in applying geospatial technologies and analytical techniques to investigate and answer operational and/or research questions. • Experience of managing and maintaining corporate GIS datasets including the development and implementation of routines and scripts. • Experience of using GIS software and platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS and ArcGIS Online. • Knowledge and experience of programming languages such as python, R and Arcpy. • Strong communication skills e.g. technical reports and papers, presentations and user guides. • The capacity to work on a variety of projects simultaneously and reprioritising to suit changing demands. • The capability to work with stakeholders to set priorities, objectives and timescales. • The ability to work well both independently and as part of a team., Please note that, due to the nature of security checks undertaken, applicants must have 3 years continuous residency in the UK up to the date of the application and, Home Office approval for indefinite leave to remain within the UK.
