Job description

Skillset: Use of ESRI ArcGIS Software and FME to maintain business critical systems, as well as coding skills (i.e. experience with ArcPy, ArcGIS API for JS, Arcade), This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a project which will expose the candidate to a wide range of systems, software, skills, expertise and insight. The GIS Technician/Developer is a member of the GIS Team which sits within the BIM Team at SCS Railways. The candidate would be responsible for supporting one of the delivery units in SCS with their GIS requests, alongside developing cutting-edge GIS solutions for the wider project. This role would be ideal for a professional with GIS skills in the ESRI suite of software, who also has a good foundation in using ETL tools such as Safe FME for managing efficient workflows and automations., * This role will provide opportunities for the successful candidate to use their experience and knowledge in a range of Geographic Information Systems (predominantly the ArcGIS suite and FME). It will require the successful candidate to use FME to develop and maintain applications for use by the wider project, to facilitate automation in specific tasks.

  • Develop custom scripts and routines to automate geoprocessing tasks, spatial analysis, and data workflows.
  • Manage, develop and deliver bespoke mobile solutions utilising GIS systems for efficient working practices across our sites.
  • Database reconciliation; sorting, tidying and organising of GIS data. The ideal candidate would continuously strive to improve the database, proactively searching for new information that can be integrated into the data. Where errors are discovered - investigating and fixing the problem.

The successful candidate will have exposure to the latest geospatial technologies being implemented in such a project (Mobile solutions, IoT, 3D/4D in GIS)., * Design and develop automated workflows using FME/Python/ModelBuilder to process data.

  • Identifying and implementing the most appropriate and efficient geospatial workflows and processes.
  • Use of Python (including ArcPy and ArcGIS Python API), ArcGIS API for JS, and Arcade.
  • Develop and maintain digital permitting systems (business critical solutions, built upon ESRI Survey123).
  • Produce creative and innovative GIS solutions using the latest set of tools available within the ESRI suite, and self-developed custom solutions to specific requests.
  • Integration of 3D BIM models into GIS - data processing and visualization.
  • Develop and maintain bespoke GIS interfaces and data to provide user access to complex datasets.
  • Use flair and experience to bring new and exciting resolutions for data integration, analysis and visualization.
  • Be continuously motivated to investigate when errors/problems are identified within the project GIS database.
  • Manage data correctly and efficiently.
  • Provide Ad Hoc assistance to colleagues (map production etc.).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in GIS or related geospatial disciplines.
  • Extensive experience of Esri’s ArcGIS products: ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro.
  • Experience in geospatial data reconciliation & ETL automation (e.g. FME).
  • Experience using Mobile Solutions such as Survey123 or Collector.
  • Good understanding of CDEs and GIS-BIM integration processes.
  • Familiarity with relational databases (SQL, PostgreSQL/PostGIS) and data manipulation scripts (Python, R, or FME) is highly advantageous.
  • The HS2 project uses a bespoke coordinate system: HS2 Survey Grid (Description of HS2 Survey Grid), therefore a thorough understanding of projections and transformations is absolutely essential.
  • Fluent in the use of standard Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), email/internet, other IT applications.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills are required for this role., * A physical or mental impairment, which has a substantial and long-term effect (over 12 months) adverse effect on your ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities
  • Demonstrated in your application and pre-interview stage that you meet the minimum job criteria and person specification for the role

The Skanska Costain STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
