Job description

We are now looking for a Full Stack Software Developer to take ownership of these applications and help us develop the next generation of internal systems at AIT.

This is a hands-on role with considerable freedom to develop ideas, improve existing systems and build new applications from the ground up.

The Role

You will be responsible for continuing the development of our existing in-house applications as well as designing and developing new systems.

A number of our applications have been developed using modern AI-assisted development tools, including Claude. We actively encourage the use of AI development tools to improve productivity, but we’re looking for somebody who understands the underlying software architecture and can ensure that the applications we build are secure, maintainable and reliable.

You will work directly with the AIT management and technical teams to identify areas of the business that could be improved through software and automation.

The role will cover the complete application lifecycle - from discussing an idea with the business through to designing, building, deploying and maintaining the finished application.

Responsibilities

You will:

  • Take ownership of our existing internally developed applications.
  • Review and understand existing AI-assisted codebases.
  • Develop new web-based applications and internal business systems.
  • Build both front-end and back-end application components.
  • Design and maintain application databases.
  • Develop APIs and integrations between different systems.
  • Integrate applications with Microsoft 365, Azure and other third-party platforms.
  • Use APIs such as Microsoft Graph where appropriate.
  • Develop authentication and role-based access control systems.
  • Improve the security, reliability and performance of existing applications.
  • Deploy and maintain applications in production environments.
  • Develop reporting dashboards and management tools.
  • Automate repetitive business processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application issues.
  • Maintain source code using Git and appropriate version-control practices.
  • Produce appropriate technical documentation.
  • Work with AIT staff to turn business requirements into working applications.
  • Identify opportunities where software or AI could improve the way AIT operates.

Requirements

  • Claude / Claude Code
  • ChatGPT
  • GitHub Copilot
  • Cursor
  • Other AI-assisted development environments

would be beneficial.

We are not looking for someone who simply relies on AI to generate code.

You should be comfortable reviewing, debugging and improving AI-generated code and understand the architecture, security and maintainability of the applications you are responsible for.

Technical Skills

We don’t expect candidates to know every technology listed below, but you should have strong experience developing complete applications.

Experience in several of the following would be beneficial:

  • JavaScript / TypeScript
  • React, Next.js or similar modern front-end frameworks
  • Node.js
  • C# / .NET
  • REST APIs
  • SQL
  • Microsoft SQL Server / PostgreSQL / MySQL
  • HTML / CSS
  • Git / GitHub
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Microsoft 365
  • Microsoft Graph API
  • OAuth / OpenID Connect
  • Docker
  • Cloud-hosted applications
  • API integrations

Experience working within Microsoft-focused environments would be particularly useful given AIT’s existing technology stack.

About You

We’re looking for someone who enjoys building things.

You should be comfortable being given a business problem rather than a complete technical specification., * Comfortable working independently.

  • Curious about how businesses operate.
  • Able to turn ideas into practical software.
  • Confident discussing requirements with non-developers.
  • Interested in automation and AI.
  • Pragmatic rather than overly theoretical.
  • Comfortable maintaining applications as well as developing new ones.
  • Security-conscious.
  • Willing to take ownership of projects from concept through to production.

Experience

We are primarily interested in ability rather than a specific number of years’ experience.

You should, however, be able to demonstrate applications or systems that you have personally developed.

We would particularly like to see examples of projects where you have been responsible for both the front-end and back-end development.

Benefits & conditions

We believe this role will work best alongside the AIT technical and management teams, particularly while learning our business and existing applications.

What We Offer

  • Salary of £45,000-£55,000 depending on experience
  • Permanent full-time position
  • Opportunity to take ownership of AIT’s internal software-development platform
  • Significant freedom to introduce new technologies and ideas
  • Direct involvement in deciding how applications are designed and developed
  • Opportunity to work extensively with modern AI development tools
  • Varied projects across IT services, automation, Microsoft 365 and business systems
  • Opportunity for the role to grow as AIT’s software-development capability expands

The Opportunity

This isn’t a role where you’ll spend all day working on a tiny part of a large software product.

You’ll have the opportunity to build complete systems, see them being used by the business and directly influence how AIT uses technology internally.

For the right person, there is considerable scope for this role to grow as we develop more of our own software and automation platforms.

Pay: £45,000.00-£55,000.00 per year, * Company events

  • Employee discount
  • Free parking
  • Life insurance
  • On-site parking
