Mainframe Software Engineer

Ready to take on a Senior Engineer - Mainframe and AWS Integration Engineer role where your expertise in both legacy systems and cloud technologies can drive meaningful transformation? ProSearch is partnering with a client to identify an experienced engineer with deep knowledge of COBOL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, JCL, Python, AWS, APIs, and event-driven architecture to help modernize a business-critical annuity platform. In this fully remote role, you’ll build scalable integrations, support real-time transaction processing, and bridge the gap between enterprise mainframe systems and modern AWS solutions.

The engineer will participate in architecture discussions and implement solutions end-to-end, with the technical lead providing final design direction., * Develop and support applications using COBOL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, and JCL.

• Build Python-based APIs, integrations, and automation on AWS.
• Develop real-time and event-driven integrations supporting straight-through transaction processing.
• Implement transaction validation, tracking, idempotency, retries, reconciliation, and monitoring.
• Partner with a data specialist to build an Operational Data Store on AWS sourced primarily from DB2, with limited VSAM data.
• Contribute to initial loads, near-real-time ingestion, transformations, validation, and data reconciliation.
• Support testing, deployment, documentation, observability, and production troubleshooting.

• Strong, hands-on COBOL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, and JCL experience.
• Strong Python development skills.
• Strong AWS engineering experience with services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, and RDS/Aurora.
• Experience building CICS webservice, REST APIs and event-driven integrations.
• Strong AWS data-engineering fundamentals.
• Experience developing and supporting business-critical mainframe systems.
• Ability to understand complex legacy business logic and implement modern integrations end to end.

Preferred Skills

• Vantage or similar mainframe-based annuity policy administration experience.
• DB2-to-AWS or near-real-time data-integration experience.
• Assembler experience.
• Generative AI, RAG, or Amazon Bedrock experience.

The salary range for this role reflects the minimum and maximum compensation for the role. Offers are typically made between the range minimum and the range midpoint. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process. Compensation may also vary based on where a role is performed.
