Werkstudent Maschinenbau - CAD & Softwareentwicklung

• Develop and test software in Python on real industrial parts from turning and milling
• Teach software to read CAD models like an engineer: automatically recognize features such as holes, pockets, slots, threads and fits in 3D models
• Extract and interpret PMI (Product Manufacturing Information) from STEP files, such as dimensions, tolerances (e.g., H7, GD&T) and surface specifications
• Explore how AI (artificial intelligence), machine learning and LLMs can help analyze CAD models
• Contribute your own ideas and help shape innovative software solutions for manufacturing

Depending on your interests, you can later go deeper into CAD model processing and feature recognition or into toolpath generation for CNC machining (CAM).

• Enrolled at a university in Germany
• Experience with CAD from your studies or projects (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, Creo, Inventor, Fusion 360, FreeCAD)
• First programming experience with programming language like Python and the motivation to develop it further
• Curiosity and a real willingness to learn new things

You don’t need to be a software developer yet. We’ll support you in growing your programming skills step by step.

Nice to have

• Interest in geometry, simulation or algorithm development
• First contact with STEP files or libraries such as OpenCASCADE
• Experience with AI coding tools and LLMs (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Cursor)
• Knowledge of technical drawings, tolerances and fits
• Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes such as turning and milling (CNC)
