Job description

You will monitor database systems, manage user access, assist with backups and maintenance, investigate issues, and work with IT and application teams when changes are required. The role would suit someone with practical database administration experience and a careful approach to systems and data., * Monitor database performance, availability, and storage.

  • Carry out routine database maintenance and health checks.
  • Manage database users, roles, and permissions in line with internal procedures.
  • Support database backups, restores, and recovery checks.
  • Investigate database errors and performance issues and help resolve them.
  • Work with application and IT teams on database changes and system updates.
  • Run approved SQL queries and support data checks when required.
  • Maintain database documentation, procedures, and configuration records.
  • Assist with database upgrades, patches, and planned maintenance.
  • Monitor scheduled database jobs and investigate failed processes.
  • Support data integrity checks and identify inconsistencies.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, changes, and maintenance activity.
  • Assist with troubleshooting issues affecting business applications and connected databases.
  • Follow information security, access control, and data protection procedures.
  • Contribute to improvements in database monitoring, maintenance, and support processes., The role provides experience across database administration, SQL, system maintenance, data integrity, backup and recovery, and IT operations. With experience, progression may include Senior Database Administrator, Database Engineer, Systems Engineer, or Database Manager.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in database administration, database support, systems administration, or a similar IT role.
  • Practical experience with SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience with at least one database platform such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
  • Understanding of database backups, restores, maintenance, and user access.
  • Good troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Comfortable working with Windows-based IT environments.
  • Good attention to detail when working with data and system changes.
  • Ability to document technical work clearly.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Ability to manage routine maintenance alongside support requests.
  • Familiarity with monitoring, ticketing, or IT service management systems is helpful.
  • Relevant IT or database qualification is beneficial but not essential.
  • Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
