Job description

New Directions Education are currently supporting a large Leeds, Secondary School, who are actively recruiting for an experienced and motivated Pastoral Officer ahead of the New Academic Year (2026/2027).

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated individual who is passionate about supporting young people, promoting positive attendance and behaviour, and helping students overcome barriers to learning. The successful candidate will play a vital role within the school’s pastoral team, working closely with Year Leaders, students, parents, and staff to ensure every learner receives the support they need to succeed.

As a Pastoral Officer, you will provide both administrative and pastoral support to a designated Year Team, helping to maintain high standards of student welfare, attendance, behaviour, and engagement. You will be a key point of contact for parents and carers and will contribute to creating a positive and supportive learning environment across the school., * Provide administrative support to the Year Leader and wider Year Team.

  • Act as a first point of contact for parents, carers, and external agencies, building positive and professional relationships.
  • Monitor student attendance and punctuality, implementing school procedures and following up on absences.
  • Produce attendance-related correspondence and maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Support attendance improvement strategies, including informal attendance contracts and intervention processes.
  • Maintain accurate student information using SIMS, School Synergy, and other school systems.
  • Work closely with the Year Leader and Student Advocate to monitor behaviour, attendance, punctuality, and attitudes to learning.
  • Assist with safeguarding procedures by reporting concerns in line with school policies.
  • Coordinate and support year-group events, including parents’ evenings, assemblies, educational visits, and meetings with external professionals.
  • Manage appointments, meetings, and diary arrangements for the Year Leader.
  • Gather information from teaching and support staff to support student interventions and pastoral planning.
  • Organise and minute Year Team meetings.
  • Support tutor-time administration and the delivery of pastoral initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the pastoral team to share best practice and support school-wide priorities., * A dedicated and expert Account Manager

Requirements

Do you have experience in Teaching?, * Has previous experience working in a school, educational setting, or pastoral support role.

  • Demonstrates excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Can manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Is confident using school management systems such as SIMS or similar databases.
  • Has a proactive, resilient, and solution-focused approach.
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing.
  • Is committed to supporting positive outcomes for young people.
