Job description

Join MHR as a Senior Software Engineer and play a key role in shaping the next generation of our cloud-based HR and payroll platform. You’ll design and deliver scalable solutions, solve complex technical challenges, and influence the engineering direction of products used by thousands of organisations across the UK and internationally.

This is an opportunity to combine hands-on software development with technical leadership, working with modern Microsoft technologies, AI-assisted development tools, and cloud-native architectures.

Your Team

You’ll work within a collaborative, cross-functional Scrum team alongside Product Managers, UX Designers, Software Engineers, and Test Engineers. Our teams embrace shared ownership, continuous improvement, and high engineering standards. We are embracing AI across both our engineering practices and products. You’ll have the opportunity to leverage tools such as GitHub Copilot while contributing to the development of intelligent capabilities within our SaaS platform.

Beyond delivering great software, you’ll help mentor others, contribute to technical decision-making, and influence how we build, deploy, and operate software at scale.

Your Impact

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll take ownership of complex features and systems from design through to deployment. You’ll contribute to architectural decisions, champion engineering best practices, and help drive improvements in quality, performance, security, and scalability.

Your work will directly influence product outcomes, customer experience, and the future direction of our platform, while helping to grow and support the engineers around you.

Requirements

  • Strong commercial experience developing software using C#, .NET and Angular (or similar modern JavaScript frameworks).
  • Experience building and supporting cloud-native applications on Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong understanding of API design, distributed systems, security, scalability and performance.
  • Experience applying unit testing, automated testing and CI/CD best practices.
  • Solid understanding of modern software engineering principles including SOLID, design patterns and clean architecture.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical leadership within a delivery team.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot would be advantageous.

Benefits & conditions

Alongside the opportunity to work with an incredible team and express your individuality, we offer a range of personalised benefits including:

  • Access to over 60 internal training courses, professional qualifications, and cross-departmental mentoring and coaching programs
  • 24/7 access to a GP through Help at Hand for you and your family, confidential mental health support, and paid sick leave
  • Ability to purchase or sell additional holiday days beyond 25 days and bank holidays
  • Enhanced Family leave
  • My MHRewards offering discounts at over 900 retailers
  • Monthly employee recognition program and departmental awards
  • Referral bonus scheme of up to £2,000
  • Employee-led social events such as running clubs, football teams, book clubs, and bake-offs
  • On-site subsidised restaurants offering a variety of fresh meals daily
  • Opt-in benefits schemes such as private medical insurance and dental coverage

We value the well-being, financial stability, and inclusivity of our employees, and strive to provide a supportive working environment.

At MHR, we’re completely committed to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace where all voices are heard, and everyone feels valued and supported.

Whatever your background, abilities and experiences, if you’re excited by this role we want to hear from you. If you require assistance for an interview, please let us know and we’ll make sure your needs are met when you arrive.

If we receive an exceptionally high volume of applications, we reserve the right to close this vacancy earlier than originally advertised.

Pay: From £50,000.00 per year
