Job description

The EHR Data & Applications Developer serves as the technical lead for EHR programming, data integration, and database development. The position is responsible for assisting with EHR testing, troubleshooting, creating data extraction pathways from the EHR, and developing custom reports, forms, and/or templates to support reporting needs. The position is responsible for designing and managing a centralized reporting database and data architecture, and building Power BI data models and reporting solutions that support clinical, operational, quality improvement, regulatory, and strategic initiatives. The role collaborates closely with the EHR Manager, Information Technology staff, vendors, and end users to ensure system reliability, data integrity, and continuous improvement.

EHR Development and Programming

  1. Design, develop, test, and maintain EHR applications, interfaces, and custom programming solutions.

  2. Utilize SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C#, .NET, and related technologies to develop, customize, and maintain SmartCare backend reports, forms, configurations, workflows, and database objects.

  3. Design, develop, test, and deploy custom reports and dashboards using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and other reporting tools. Ensure reports are accurate, user-friendly, and accessible through the system’s graphical user interface.

  4. Develop and maintain custom Data Form Architect (DFA) forms, templates, and configurations to support business and clinical workflows.

EHR Administration and Support

  1. Successfully complete Streamline Healthcare’s Advanced Technical Training and maintain the required competencies to access and work within the SmartCare application backend, database structures, and user interface components.

  2. Troubleshoot and resolve application, reporting, and connectivity issues within the EHR environment. Coordinate with the vendor through the Streamline Zendesk support portal, track incidents through resolution, and document outcomes.

  3. Collaborate with the EHR Manager and stakeholders to test and validate customizations, service packs, software updates, patches, and system upgrades before production deployment.

Data Management and Analytics

  1. Design, develop, and maintain a centralized reporting database/data warehouse that consolidates clinical, operational, financial, and quality data from the SmartCare EHR and other organizational systems.

  2. Develop, maintain, and optimize automated data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes to move data from the EHR into a centralized reporting environment.

  3. Design, build, and maintain Power BI datasets, semantic models, reporting tables, measures, and dashboards that support operational management, quality improvement, regulatory reporting, and strategic decision-making.

  4. Ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulations governing data security, privacy, confidentiality, and access management.

Documentation and Change Management

  1. Document all code, reports, configurations, and customizations according to established standards to support system maintenance, version control, and knowledge transfer.

  2. Maintain all programming code, reports, and related technical artifacts within a centralized source-control repository (e.g., Git).

  3. Develop and maintain User Requirements Documents (URDs), technical specifications, testing plans, and deployment documentation to support system modifications and enhancements.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  2. Three (3) years of experience in software development, application programming, database development, or EHR application support.

  3. Experience designing and maintaining relational databases, data warehouses, ETL processes, and business intelligence data models.

  4. Advanced SQL development skills including creation of views, stored procedures, functions, and performance optimization.

  5. Experience developing Power BI semantic models, dataflows, and enterprise reporting solutions.

  6. Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical users and provide remote support as needed.
