Software Architect

A software-led business is looking for a Software Architect to take ownership of architecture across a strategic product platform. This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who has owned architecture at full platform level, covering backend, frontend, DevOps and operational considerations. It is not a project-by-project architecture role, or a technical leadership role focused on a single development team. The focus now is on creating clearer architecture standards, improving consistency, supporting platform consolidation and making sure technical decisions improve reliability, security, maintainability and developer productivity across the wider engineering function. What you’ll be doingYou will act as the technical owner for platform architecture, working across engineering, product, infrastructure and security teams. This will include:Owning architecture standards and direction across a strategic product platformSupporting platform consolidation and reducing unnecessary duplicationDefining clear service boundaries, ownership models and integration patternsReviewing significant technical changes and guiding solution designImproving platform-wide reliability, security, maintainability and developer productivityEnsuring security, resilience, observability and scalability are built into solution designsIdentifying architectural risks, technical debt and platform constraintsWorking closely with engineering and product leadership on major technical decisionsInfluencing multiple engineering teams through technical credibility, clarity and pragmatic decision-making This is mainly focused on architecture, design review, technical direction and influence through engineering teams. It is not a hands-on development role day to day.

You must have been the architecture owner for an entire product platform, not just individual projects, components or development teams.You should be able to show where you have improved platform-wide reliability, security, maintainability or developer productivity across several engineering teams. Essential experience includes:Architecture ownership across a full product platformSaaS, product or platform architecture experienceExperience working across backend, frontend, DevOps and operational architecturePlatform consolidation or platform modernisation experienceAPI, integration and service design experienceCloud-based architecture, ideally including AzureSecurity-by-design, resilience, scalability and operational qualityStrong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholdersThe ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams without relying on direct line management This role would suit someone who is already operating as a Software Architect, Platform Architect, Principal Architect or senior technical leader with genuine platform-wide ownership.Why this role?
