Job description
You will turn business questions into clear analysis and practical recommendations. Working with client stakeholders, product managers, and engineers, you will define success metrics, investigate user behavior, and build reporting that supports everyday decisions.
This is a senior individual contributor role with direct client interaction. You will typically support one primary engagement and one smaller assignment, with priorities coordinated by your manager.
What You’ll Do
- Work with clients to clarify business questions and agree on measurable outcomes.
- Use SQL to analyze product usage, customer journeys, conversion, retention, and operational performance.
- Build dashboards that make important trends and changes easy to understand.
- Define consistent metrics and document how they are calculated.
- Investigate unexpected results, check data quality, and explain the limitations of your findings.
- Partner with engineers to specify event tracking and validate new data sources.
- Design and evaluate experiments where appropriate, distinguishing correlation from evidence of causation.
- Present recommendations to technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Review analytical work and help less experienced teammates develop their skills., You can expect focused working sessions, peer reviews, and direct access to project stakeholders. We encourage people to flag unclear requests and unrealistic deadlines early. Your manager coordinates competing priorities so you are not left to negotiate them alone.
We plan work within a 40-hour week. There are no scheduled evening or weekend shifts and no on-call duties.
Your First 90 Days
- First month: Learn your client’s business, review existing metrics, and deliver an initial analysis with support.
- Second month: Take ownership of a reporting area or analytical workstream and build relationships with key stakeholders.
- Third month: Independently deliver a project from the initial question through recommendations and identify a useful improvement to measurement or reporting.
Success is assessed through analytical accuracy, clarity of communication, useful recommendations, and reliable delivery.
Hiring Process
- A 30-minute introductory call with the hiring manager.
- A 60-minute SQL and analytical reasoning session using a sample dataset.
- A 45-minute discussion of a business scenario and how you would communicate your findings.
There is no unpaid take-home assignment. Candidates receive format and preparation details in advance. The process typically takes two to three weeks.
Requirements
- At least five years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or product analytics.
- Advanced SQL skills, including joins, window functions, and working with complex datasets.
- Strong experience with a visualization tool such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
- Working knowledge of Python or R for data preparation and analysis.
- A practical understanding of statistics, experimentation, and common analytical biases.
- Experience translating an ambiguous request into an analysis that supports a decision.
- Confidence explaining findings and trade-offs directly to business stakeholders.
- Clear written and spoken English and strong organizational skills.
A relevant degree is welcome, but equivalent professional experience is equally valued.
Nice to Have
Experience in consulting, client-facing analytics, SaaS products, event tracking, dbt, or cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake and BigQuery.
You do not need to have worked in every client industry or used every tool listed.
Tools and Scope
Our typical analytics toolkit includes SQL, Python, Power BI, and cloud data warehouses. Tools vary by client engagement, and onboarding includes time to learn the project environment.
You will collaborate with engineers on data availability and quality. Building production data infrastructure or machine-learning systems is outside the core scope of this role.
