Job description

This is a hands-on role with opportunities across backend services, data pipelines, cloud automation, and full-stack internal products. You will turn real business and engineering problems into practical tools used by teams across Rivian. The role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys learning quickly, writing maintainable software, understanding how technology decisions affect cost and value, and seeing their work create measurable business impact. This role will be located in Atlanta, GA and report to our Director, Cloud & Software FinOps.

  • Build and enhance internal software for application portfolio management, cloud cost optimization, and software efficiency.
  • Develop backend services, APIs, integrations, and data pipelines that connect cloud cost, usage, resource, application, ownership, and portfolio data.
  • Create dashboards and workflows that help engineers, technology leaders, Finance, Procurement, and application owners make informed decisions.
  • Contribute to system design, database design, and infrastructure decisions, balancing scalability, reliability, security, usability, and cost.
  • Use approved AI coding agents for implementation, testing, refactoring, and documentation; read, review, test, and debug the resulting code.
  • Build secure, observable services using CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, logging, metrics, and tracing.
  • Partner with Cloud Engineering, Finance, Procurement, Security, application teams, and other stakeholders to turn business problems into practical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot issues, document technical decisions and operating procedures, and continuously improve the team’s products and processes.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • Experience building software through coursework, internships, co-ops, research, personal projects, or prior employment; no specific number of years of professional experience is required.
  • Experience with Python and/or TypeScript and the ability to read, review, test, and discuss code. Strong fundamentals in another modern programming language will also be considered.
  • Foundational knowledge of system design, database design, cloud infrastructure, and the tradeoffs involved in building reliable services.
  • Experience writing SQL and working with structured data, relational databases, data models, or data pipelines.
  • An understanding of HTTP, REST APIs, data exchange formats, and service-to-service integrations.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts and at least one major cloud platform.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, along with a willingness to seek guidance and take increasing ownership.
