Job description

Pimlico Banks are seeking an experienced Principal Systems Engineer to act as the technical authority for an embedded hardware and software development programme, helping to guide the development of an innovative new product from concept through to manufacture.

This is a technical leadership role, working closely with internal stakeholders and third-party engineering partners to guide architecture, review designs, solve technical challenges and drive successful product delivery.

The successful candidate will combine strong engineering expertise with the ability to build relationships, influence decisions and provide technical direction across internal teams and suppliers.

The Opportunity

You will act as the key technical interface between the business and external development partners responsible for embedded software, electronics and system development activities.

Working at system level, you will review proposed solutions, challenge design decisions, identify technical risks and ensure products are robust, manufacturable and aligned with programme objectives.

This role is ideally suited to somebody who has progressed beyond day-to-day engineering and now enjoys technical leadership, systems thinking and directing engineering activities across multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical authority for embedded hardware and software development activities
  • Work closely with external engineering partners to review, challenge and guide technical solutions
  • Provide technical leadership across system architecture, design and integration activities
  • Review design proposals and ensure solutions meet performance, quality and manufacturing requirements
  • Identify, assess and mitigate technical risks throughout the development lifecycle
  • Support verification, validation and design review activities
  • Drive technical problem solving and resolution of complex engineering issues
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, regulatory and manufacturing teams
  • Build effective working relationships with suppliers, stakeholders and project teams
  • Communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Willingness to travel abroad 3-5 times per year

Requirements

Do you have experience in Systems engineering?, You will have a strong background in embedded systems, electronics or systems engineering, combined with the ability to influence technical direction and work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders., * Principal Systems Engineer

Experience within medical devices or diagnostics would be beneficial, however we are equally interested in candidates from aerospace, defence, industrial automation, scientific instrumentation or other engineering sectors where technical rigour, quality and disciplined product development are fundamental.
