Job description

We are seeking an experienced COBOL Developer to support a mainframe modernization and expansion initiative on an IBM z/OS environment. The successful candidate will modify and enhance custom COBOL code supporting both CICS online processing and batch operations for an expanding production environment.

The role will involve analyzing existing code, developing enhancements, troubleshooting issues, and supporting the deployment of changes across additional mainframe machines., * Analyze existing COBOL applications and identify code suitable for reuse across new or expanded environments.

  • Modify and enhance COBOL programs supporting CICS and batch processing.
  • Develop, test, debug, and implement mainframe application changes.
  • Work with JCL, VSAM files, and other IBM z/OS components.
  • Troubleshoot production and development issues using mainframe debugging tools.
  • Perform system-level debugging, performance tuning, and security-related analysis.
  • Support file and data management activities using File Manager or comparable tools.
  • Collaborate with technical teams, project stakeholders, and business representatives.
  • Document technical changes, testing results, and implementation procedures.
  • Provide strong problem-solving support throughout the development and deployment lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Strong experience developing and maintaining applications in COBOL II.
  • Hands-on experience with IBM z/OS mainframe environments.
  • Proficiency with CICS and batch processing.
  • Strong knowledge of JCL.
  • Experience working with VSAM files.
  • Experience with SDF II / COBOL Maps.
  • Experience using CEDF for CICS debugging.
  • Experience with File Manager, FileAid, or a similar mainframe file-management tool.
  • Experience with system-level debugging and performance tuning.
  • Knowledge of mainframe security concepts and practices.
  • Experience with Easytrieve.
  • Experience using the IBM Debugging Utility.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting large-scale mainframe expansions or migrations.
  • Experience analyzing and reusing existing code across multiple machines or environments.
  • Familiarity with structured testing, release management, and production implementation processes.
  • Experience working in an agile or iterative delivery environment.

Benefits & conditions

Pay: $60.00 - $65.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
