Job description

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an AVP Java Developer to work for our client within the Banking & Financial Services sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London., Our client is looking for a skilled Java Developer to join their Electronic Trading Technology team, supporting business-critical trading platforms and market access solutions. Working closely with Front Office stakeholders, technology teams and infrastructure partners, you will contribute to the development, enhancement and support of low-latency trading systems used across the FICC business., * Develop, enhance and support electronic trading applications and market access platforms.

  • Deliver technology solutions that support front-office trading and electronic execution activities.
  • Collaborate with traders, technology teams and business stakeholders to understand requirements and implement strategic enhancements.
  • Contribute to the design, development and deployment of high-performance trading applications.
  • Work with market data and trading infrastructure platforms to ensure system availability and performance.
  • Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews and Agile development ceremonies.
  • Support platform upgrades, integrations and ongoing technology improvements.
  • Investigate and resolve complex production issues, providing Level 3 support where required.
  • Monitor application performance and contribute to performance optimisation initiatives.
  • Work closely with global development teams to deliver scalable and resilient technology solutions.

Requirements

  • Experience developing enterprise applications using Java.
  • Background working within financial markets, investment banking or electronic trading environments.
  • Understanding of electronic trading systems, market data platforms or market connectivity technologies.
  • Experience working within Linux-based environments.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with FIX protocol, market data feeds or exchange connectivity would be advantageous.
  • Experience using source control and CI/CD tooling such as Git and Jenkins.
  • Understanding of software development best practices and the full Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Exposure to algorithmic trading or electronic execution platforms.
  • Experience with KDB+/Q.
  • Knowledge of C++.
  • Experience working within Front Office technology teams.
  • Understanding of low-latency application development and performance optimisation.
