Job description

KMS Communications Ltd is seeking an experienced Infinera Remote Support Engineer to support a newly awarded optical network deployment project involving Infinera DTN-X equipment across multiple UK sites.

The role will provide remote technical support to field engineers during installation, commissioning, turn-up, service activation, and troubleshooting activities. The successful candidate must have strong practical knowledge of Infinera platforms and be confident supporting live deployment teams remotely.

This is a project-based support role and may suit an experienced optical transmission engineer, NOC engineer, commissioning engineer, or Infinera specialist., The engineer will provide remote support for Infinera-related deployment activities, including:

  • Remote technical support during Infinera hardware installation and turn-up.
  • Support for Infinera DTN-X platforms and associated modules.
  • Assistance with service activation and remote provisioning activities.
  • Alarm analysis, fault diagnosis, and troubleshooting.
  • Coordination with on-site engineers during installation and testing.
  • Support with module recognition, hardware validation, and system checks.
  • Guidance during commissioning and service validation activities.
  • Escalation support for Infinera-related issues during deployment.
  • Clear communication with field teams and project stakeholders.
  • Support with documenting issues, actions taken, and resolutions., This is a remote support role. Support will be required during planned installation and activation windows across the project.

The role may involve:

  • Scheduled remote support sessions.
  • Ad-hoc troubleshooting support during deployment.
  • Coordination with on-site engineers.
  • Possible out-of-hours or weekend support depending on site access windows.

Important Scope Note

This role is for remote Infinera technical support only. It does not include ownership of network design, project management, customer change management, or field installation activities.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Telecommunication?, * Optical transmission systems

  • 10GE and 100GE service environments
  • Photonic channel deployment and service activation
  • Infinera management systems

Required Experience

Applicants should have:

  • Proven experience supporting Infinera optical transport platforms.
  • Strong understanding of DWDM / optical transmission networks.
  • Experience with remote commissioning, provisioning, or deployment support.
  • Ability to troubleshoot alarms, service issues, and hardware-related faults.
  • Understanding of optical service testing and turn-up processes.
  • Ability to work with field engineers in real time during deployment windows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow provided work instructions and service definitions.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Previous experience supporting Virgin Media O2, Ciena, Infinera, or carrier network environments.
  • Experience with 10GE and 100GE circuit activation.
  • Familiarity with Y.1564 / EtherSAM service testing.
  • Experience working on multi-site UK telecoms deployment projects.
  • Ability to assist with deployment-ready engineering documentation, port mapping, or service parameter references.
