Job description
To be considered, you’ll need to be a strong hands-on data scientist with solid Python and Scala skills, experience with ML frameworks like scikit-learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch, and a good understanding of cyber analytics and network threat detection.
You’ll be joining a specialist security team that handles thousands of cyber threats every day, working alongside some of the brightest minds in the field on rare, high-impact projects that you simply won’t find elsewhere.
The team is agile, technically ambitious, and working across multiple projects simultaneously - there’s real variety here, and real opportunity to shape the direction of the data science capability from the ground up.
You should also be comfortable leading and mentoring others, identifying new opportunities to apply data science, and engaging at a strategic level across the wider organisation.
Key responsibilities
· Drive exploitation of data across critical customer platforms to deliver real-world outcomes.
· Lead and mentor a team of data scientists and AI professionals across multiple projects.
· Coordinate development and implementation of custom data models, algorithms, and AI solutions.
· Identify and pursue new opportunities to apply data science and machine learning for improved results.
· Champion emerging trends in AI and machine learning and share knowledge across the team.
· Build internal data science capability and deliver innovative solutions for both internal and customer needs.
· Engage strategically across the wider organisation to identify high-impact data opportunities.
Requirements
· Strong programming skills in Python and Scala for data science and software development.
· Hands-on experience with ML frameworks including scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
· Solid understanding of graphs, networks, time-series modelling, and geospatial analytics.
· Proficiency with data science libraries such as Pandas and NumPy.
· Linux and DevOps skills including shell scripting, SSH, cron, and package management.
· Experience with version control and working across multiple development environments.
· Knowledge of cyber analytics and detecting threats within network data.
· Ability to lead, mentor, and develop junior data scientists in an agile environment.
The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:
· Experience working in a security, defence, or government-adjacent environment.
· Familiarity with statistical analysis techniques applied to large or complex datasets.
· Experience identifying strategic opportunities for data science within an organisation.
· Exposure to critical national infrastructure projects or classified programmes.
