Job description
A well-established EPC firm is expanding into the mission-critical space and is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to serve as a technical leader across the development and execution of data center infrastructure projects. This is a foundational hire - you’ll help shape electrical engineering standards, support business development, and deliver high-performance, resilient power systems for hyperscale and enterprise clients. Some travel to project sites and client meetings should be expected., You’ll act as the electrical subject matter expert (SME) across multiple projects, driving best-in-class design, constructability, and reliability for mission-critical operations., n \n

Serve as the Electrical Technical Authority for data center projects, overseeing design, execution, and commissioning support \n

Lead design and review of MV/LV power distribution systems - utility interconnection, substations, switchgear, UPS, generators, and critical load distribution \n

Develop design standards, specifications, and best practices tailored to mission-critical facilities \n
-
Advise on redundancy strategies (N, N+1, 2N, 2N+1, 3:2, 4:3, 6:5) aligned to uptime and reliability requirements \n

Perform/review system studies - load flow, short circuit, coordination, arc flash (ETAP or SKM) \n

Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and construction teams for fully integrated, constructible designs \n

Act as trusted technical advisor during concept development, design reviews, and execution \n

Support business development - proposals, technical presentations, client pursuits \n

Coordinate with key vendors (UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, busway) on system performance and delivery \n

Lead design reviews (30/60/90%), HAZOPs, and commissioning planning \n

Mentor and develop electrical engineering staff \n

Support fast-track delivery models including modular/prefabricated solutions (E-Houses, skids) \n
Requirements
-
BSEE from an ABET-accredited institution \n
-
Professional Engineer (PE) license required \n
-
15+ years electrical engineering experience with significant mission-critical/data center exposure \n
-
Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and relevant data center design standards \n
-
Proven experience with large-scale power systems (utility to critical load) \n
-
Expertise in ETAP or SKM \n
-
Hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center client experience preferred
