This advertisement is for an Information Technology Specialist I position. Located at the EIS campus in Rancho Cordova, CA, County of Sacramento, but will be supporting Programs throughout the Sacramento area., This position requires local in-person duties to be performed although some telework may be available to employees in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. Specific telework may be discussed further during the interview process. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations is seeking a conscientious applicant who can improve collaboration and execute IT service delivery to various programs that supports CDCR mission. As an Information Technology Specialist I (IT Spec. I), you will become an integral part of the HQ IT team.
Under direction of the Information Technology Manager I, the Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) is a member of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of technical analysts. The position performs independently, with minimum supervision, and is responsible for advanced personal computer (PC) support and network connectivity. The position leads technical staff that provides first line support for personal computer workstation installation, problem diagnostics and resolution, training and customer support. Duties extend to provide support for planning, acquiring, researching and evaluating new technology and products to be used within the current technical environment. The position establishes and maintains constructive professional relationships with the bureau’s PC customers and must effectively communicate technical information with them, including those customers considered to be non-technical.

The California Department of Corrections Rehabilitation (CDCR) Headquarters has implemented a new automated system to streamline the hiring process. The Human Resources Technology System (HRTS) is an intuitive, user-friendly system that provides the applicant access to real-time updates throughout the hiring process. HRTS will require new candidates to set up an account, which allows them to track their application’s progress. Through their account portal, candidates will also be able to provide any additional information needed in the hiring process, including setting up interviews as needed. Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
When submitting supporting documents, PDF file format is preferred., Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (please attach your letter, if available). SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered in the event no SROA or Surplus candidates apply. Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s)., In addition to evaluating each candidate’s relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Demonstrate a high level of customer service;
- Possess knowledge of PowerShell and the ability to automate IT tasks;
- Possess experience with Active Directory and Office365;
- Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot complex IT problems;
- Possess the ability to lead a small IT project team;
- Possess a wide knowledge of Microsoft’s Operating System environment and how to support it;
- Possess strong writing, analytical, and research skills with the ability to compose accurate, concise, and detailed written determinations and proposed decisions;
- Demonstrate ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously and effectively;
- Exercise good judgement, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines;
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with difficult, sensitive, and confidential matters;
- Willingness to create and promote an equitable and inclusive workplace where diversity is celebrated and valued.
