Job description

Seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to analyze, convert, and modernize legacy Easytrieve applications into PL/I and/or Python solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong IBM z/OS mainframe expertise, including Easytrieve, JCL, COBOL/PL/I, DB2, VSAM, and batch processing. Responsibilities include code analysis, redesign, conversion, testing, performance tuning, and production implementation while ensuring functional equivalence and maintaining business logic integrity., * Analyze existing Easytrieve programs and supporting batch workflows.

  • Convert Easytrieve reporting and data-processing logic to PL/I or Python.
  • Interpret and document legacy business rules and technical specifications.
  • Work with JCL, DB2, VSAM, Sequential Files, and batch scheduling environments.
  • Perform code remediation, debugging, unit testing, and system testing.
  • Validate converted applications against existing production outputs.
  • Optimize performance and maintainability of modernized solutions.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, architects, and QA teams.
  • Support deployment and post-production stabilization activities.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with Easytrieve analysis and maintenance.
  • Expertise in PL/I, COBOL, or similar mainframe languages.
  • Experience with Python development for modernization initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of JCL, DB2, VSAM, TSO/ISPF, and batch processing.
  • Experience with data mapping, file layouts, and report generation.
  • Ability to reverse engineer undocumented legacy applications.
  • Strong debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Mainframe modernization or migration project experience.
  • Experience with automated code conversion tools.
  • Knowledge of CICS and IBM utilities.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based modernization strategies.
