Job description

Serco is seeking a highly skilled Web Designer to support the Joint Staff J-7 Deputy Directorate for Joint Training and Exercises (DDJTE). This critical role involves designing, developing, and maintaining web-based information environments that facilitate joint and combined training events. The Web Designer will collaborate closely with military planners, Combatant Commands, technical partners, and other stakeholders to translate operational requirements into effective digital solutions. The primary focus is on creating intuitive, accessible, and engaging web environments that support scenario development, content management, and user engagement throughout the Joint Exercise Life Cycle (JELC). The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in web development, information architecture, user experience, and content management to enhance training effectiveness and operational readiness. This role also involves supporting exercise planning, providing user training, conducting quality control, and assessing the performance of information environments as key training enablers. The position requires an active U.S. Department of Defense Secret security clearance with eligibility for Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access, and involves travel within the U.S. and abroad as needed., The Web Designer will be responsible for preparing and maintaining web-based information environments to support Joint Staff J-7-sponsored training events. Key duties include serving as the Information Environment Designer during planning, execution, and post-event activities, ensuring the environments meet operational and training requirements. The role involves coordinating with military customers, planners, and technical teams to identify needs and translate them into technical specifications, mock-ups, and system change requests. The Web Designer will interface with development teams to facilitate system enhancements, ensuring the environments effectively support training objectives and scenarios. Designing user-friendly, accessible, and integrated web environments that align with operational goals is a core task. The role also includes developing and maintaining content management policies, providing user training and support, and creating instructional materials such as user guides and quick reference sheets. The Web Designer will oversee content quality, facilitate scenario updates during exercises, and support scenario synchronization meetings. Additionally, the role involves monitoring system performance, analyzing web engagement metrics, and recommending improvements to optimize usability and training outcomes. Ensuring compliance with cybersecurity, information management, and data governance policies is essential. The Web Designer will also support the use of social media and other digital platforms to enhance realism and engagement during exercises. Travel requirements include up to 25% domestically and internationally, supporting mission-critical activities across various locations.

Requirements

The ideal candidate must be a U.S. citizen holding an active U.S. Department of Defense Secret security clearance, with eligibility for Top Secret/SCI access. A bachelor’s degree or higher is required, along with a minimum of five years of relevant experience. Alternatively, candidates with an associate degree and at least seven years of pertinent experience will also be considered. Demonstrated ability to convert verbal and written requirements into design mock-ups and technical specifications is essential. Candidates should possess strong knowledge of web development principles, including information architecture, accessibility standards, and user-centered design strategies. Proficiency with web design tools such as Adobe Dreamweaver and Photoshop is expected. Familiarity with social media platforms, including Facebook, X, and YouTube, and their application in exercise scenarios is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary to provide clear briefings, user training, and technical guidance. The ability to work effectively in fast-paced, collaborative environments and manage multiple priorities is crucial. Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally are also required. Preferred qualifications include experience in website development, web metrics analysis, supporting joint military exercises, and familiarity with the Joint Exercise Life Cycle and scenario development processes.
