Job description
Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Senior Software Engineer/Architect to design and deliver mission-critical systems for national security, space, and health applications. You will define software architectures, lead end-to-end development, and guide technical teams across the full lifecycle, from requirements and modeling to deployment in secure environments. Collaborate with scientists and engineers, evaluate emerging technologies, ensure scalability and reliability, and contribute to research prototypes while mentoring staff in a highly collaborative, mission-driven culture.
Responsibilities
- Design and document scalable, secure software architectures for mission-critical systems.
- Lead end-to-end development, integration, and deployment of complex applications.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and stakeholders to refine requirements and system designs.
- Evaluate and prototype emerging technologies to support R&D and mission objectives.
- Ensure performance, reliability, and security through rigorous testing and code reviews.
- Mentor and guide software engineers, setting technical standards and best practices.
- Contribute to project planning, estimation, and risk management across the software lifecycle.
