Job description

  • Own and extend Scale Studio - the in-house platform for portfolio monitoring, valuations, financials tracking, and quarterly LP reporting across 70+ portfolio companies
  • Build automated data ingestion tooling using AI to replace manual entry of board decks, financials, and portfolio company reporting
  • Develop automated error resolution tools to detect and fix discrepancies when financial numbers don’t tie out
  • Build and maintain agentic internal tools (LLM agents, custom MCPs) that let investors query portfolio and pipeline data in plain language
  • Work directly with investors, finance, and IR teams as your end users - gathering feedback and translating it into shipped product on a quarterly release cycle

Requirements

We are looking for a Full-Stack Engineer with 5+ years of experience to own and evolve the internal software platform that powers portfolio monitoring, fund operations, and LP reporting at Scale Venture Partners - a $2.9B AUM venture capital firm backing companies like DocuSign, HubSpot, and BILL. This is a high-autonomy IC role where you’ll work directly with investors and finance teams, shipping features end-to-end with no product manager layer in between., * Private markets domain knowledge - must have built software involving cap tables, ownership/dilution, valuations, portfolio monitoring, or LP reporting (experience at a fund, or companies like Carta, Standard Metrics, Aumni, Juniper Square, Chronograph, PitchBook, or similar)

  • Full-stack production experience - comfortable writing Python services, modeling data in PostgreSQL, and building React/TypeScript interfaces
  • Strong SQL and data modeling instincts - much of the work is deciding how messy private market data should be represented before any UI gets built
  • 5+ years shipping production web applications (flexible for exceptional candidates, but not entry-level)
  • Hands-on IC who ships - this is not a management, architecture-only, or research role; you will code and deliver working software

Work experience

· Experience building back- office software for private markets, venture capital, or startup financials (Pitchbook, Carta, Pulley)

· Built and shipped VC and private markets back office products and features: cap tables, preferences and liquidation mechanics, ownership and dilution, capital calls, valuations, portfolio monitoring, or LP reporting

Hard skills

· Genuine full- stack development proficiency (Python, React, TypeScript) with strong SQL and data modeling instincts

Seniority

· 5 - 8 years of experience as a full- stack engineer, building back office software for private markets, funds, or VCs

Soft skills

· Experience working directly with investor teams and stakeholders. Able to translate observations into scope.

Miscellaneous

· Demonstrated tenure: history of staying at an employer long enough to see the long- term outcomes of engineering decisions

· Ability to work hybrid in Foster City, CA or San Francisco, CA (1- 3 days/week)

Nice-to-have

Work experience

· Experience at a fund’s platform or technology team, or on a team serving that market

· Hard skills

· AWS and production ownership experience (ECS, CI, monitoring)

· Experience building with LLMs in production (retrieval, evaluation, agent tooling)
