Job description

Job Summary: The Manager-Data Governance leads the enterprise data governance program, defining principles, policies, and standards that govern how data is shared, managed, and used across the organization. Working through the Data Governance Steering Committee and in close partnership with Legal, Compliance, and enterprise data, reporting, and analytics teams, this role builds a trusted data platform, clarifies accountability for data ownership and quality, and grows a culture of data stewardship across the enterprise. The Manager - Data Governance translates governance policy into practical standards for data quality, classification, and risk management, while enabling data owners and stewards to turn governed data into actionable business insight. This role also helps the organization anticipate and prioritize future data and technology needs, ensuring governance practices evolve alongside new tools and capabilities to support fact-based, data-driven decision-making. Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field required. Experience may be accepted in lieu of degree. Minimum five years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related discipline required, including experience developing and implementing data governance frameworks, policies, and stewardship models. Management experience over cross-functional teams preferred. Experience with healthcare data or EPIC preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, principles, and best practices, including data stewardship models, data ownership structures, and policy development. Working knowledge of data quality management, metadata management, data lineage, and data classification practices. Familiar knowledge of data governance and data management platforms and tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, or similar) and standard office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Knowledge of relevant data privacy, security, and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA) and their application to enterprise data practices. Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build consensus and drive alignment across senior leaders and cross-functional teams without direct authority. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to analyze business problems, interpret data and processes from limited information, and recommend practical, actionable solutions. Able to communicate complex technical and governance concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, in person, in writing, and in presentations. Strong project and program management skills, including the ability to prioritize competing initiatives, manage multiple assignments, and drive projects to completion. Able to lead, train, mentor, and develop staff, including data stewards, data scientists, and other data professionals, and to foster a culture of data-driven decision-making. Able to work calmly and respond courteously under pressure; cooperates harmoniously with others and shares information appropriately and in a timely manner. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens and written documents necessary.
