Job description

The Software Development team is a part of the IT Services Department. We develop and deliver innovative IT solutions that are fundamental to the delivery of outstanding teaching and learning and world class research undertaken at the University.

Our developers work in multi-talented agile service delivery teams delivering solutions and supporting digital systems around a theme, for example Student Experience, Teaching and Learning or Corporate Services. Each team is led by a Development Team Leader and a Product Owner working in partnership., Time for a change? Looking for a new challenge? As one of the UK’s leading universities, we’re looking for two talented developers to join our highly collaborative team delivering software of real value to our staff and students.

We have two vacancies, one in each of the following teams.

The Research, Recruitment and Partnerships team manages integrations between core systems including data for students, student applications, staff, finance and research.

The Student Experience team works to enhance everything student-facing outside of direct academic study. In practice, this means we build and maintain the services behind timetabling and scheduling, campus space management and student-facing information feeds.

The position is offered both full-time at 37 hours per week and part-time with a reduced number of hours per week (minimum 0.8FTE, flexible), and is available with a flexible hybrid of working from home and in the office.

Requirements

You have experience coding in a modern programming language, using software development practices such as unit testing and continuous integration. You have knowledge of back-end web technologies, for example AWS, Node.js/Typescript, databases and GitHub Workflows, with perhaps some front-end too, and an interest in developing these skills further.

You are thoughtful, curious and willing to learn. You value others’ opinions and experiences, and treat others with respect and compassion.

Other things we’re interested in are experience with Amazon Web Services, event-driven architectures, and migrating or working with legacy architectures and systems. Above all we’re looking for people with a positive attitude, who are adaptable and can learn new technologies; we’re happy to provide the training necessary to succeed in the role.

Benefits & conditions

£37,694 - £46,049 per year (reduced pro rata) + £3,000 market supplement Grade Grade 6 Contract status Open Hours of work Full-time (flexibility available) Based at University of York campus (with some remote working options available)
