Job description

We are looking for a Data Analyst to join our dynamic team working to advance HCCI’s mission. This position is ideal for candidates with extensive experience working with health care claims data and who are seeking opportunities to conduct high-profile analytics. The Data Analyst will support HCCI’s efforts to provide employers and other stakeholders information to help them make informed decisions to improve the value of health care. The Data Analyst will:

  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries against large relational claims databases to develop and maintain reports on health care prices, utilization, spending, and quality.
  • Proactively and independently navigate database schemas to source data for new and existing analyses.
  • Partner with data visualization specialists to populate dashboards and reports with accurate, correctly structured data.
  • Apply working knowledge of health care reimbursement and claims structures to ensure analyses are methodologically sound.
  • Respond to internal and external stakeholder requests and support ad hoc data requests and special projects as needed.
  • Support data infrastructure efforts surrounding data assets, including data ingestion, quality control, technical documentation, and interfacing with data vendor to resolve issues as needed.
  • Promote and present findings and tailored data products to various audiences of all data literacy levels in a timely, professional, customer-service-oriented manner.
  • Support HCCI’s organizational operational activities as needed (e.g. help write proposals, liaise with external stakeholders, etc.)

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience and skillset assembling, understanding, and analyzing health care claims data. A combined 4+ years of experience working in Medicare, Medicaid, and/or commercial claims database required. Experience working with self-insured employer’s claims data a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills and strong quantitative and programming skills, including extensive demonstrated experience using SQL, SAS, or other programming languages to manage and analyze big data.
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, mathematics, social science, informatics, or other quantitative field.
  • Experience developing and maintaining reports on spending, price, and utilization from claims data.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, especially about quantitative findings for non-quantitative audiences.
  • Detail oriented problem solvers with a sense of resourcefulness.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to work in a collegial and learning work environment and serve as resource for other team members.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to work in a high-impact, mission-driven environment.

Benefits & conditions

This is a full-time, exempt, position with an annual salary range from $75,000 to $95,000, depending on experience. HCCI also provides competitive benefits to full-time employees, including 403B retirement with employer contribution and health insurance.
