Job description

GIS/Geospatial Data Scientist - Python, PostGIS, Azure - Remote from Western or Northern Europe - UN Client, * Assess raster/vector datasets, administrative boundaries, coordinate systems, metadata and data quality.

  • Implement geospatial workflows: reprojection, geometry validation, spatial joins, clipping, aggregation, buffering and proximity analysis.
  • Prepare and publish validated spatial data for analytics, APIs, map services and visualization.
  • Support OGC services and geospatial APIs.
  • Collaborate with data engineering, cloud, architecture and governance teams.
  • Produce technical documentation and handover materials.

Requirements

  • Relevant university degree; a first-level degree with additional relevant experience may be accepted.
  • Proven GIS, geospatial data engineering or spatial analytics experience.
  • Practical knowledge of raster/vector data, coordinate reference systems and spatial quality controls.
  • ArcGIS, QGIS, GDAL/OGR, PostGIS, GeoServer, MapServer or equivalent tools.
  • Python geospatial libraries such as GeoPandas, Rasterio, Shapely, Fiona, PyProj or Xarray.
  • SQL/spatial SQL and cloud processing in Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.
  • Geospatial integration into data lake/lakehouse and analytics platforms.
  • GIS formats and standards: GeoJSON, Shapefile, GeoTIFF, WMS/WFS/WCS and OGC APIs.
  • Familiarity with metadata standards such as ISO 19115 or DCAT/DCAT-AP.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

SDMX, environmental indicators and international reporting experience are advantages. Relevant Azure certifications are desirable. Qualified female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.
