Job description

We are seeking a Mid-Level Software Developer with strong back-end development experience to support a high-visibility effort with the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command. We are looking for candidates who are excited about building mission-focused, reliable, and secure software solutions.

This role offers the opportunity to deepen your back-end engineering expertise, work within a modern development environment, and contribute to the creation of next-generation products and services.

The selected candidate will work at our office in Huntsville and at the customer site on Redstone Arsenal 5 days a week. This is not a remote role.

In this role, you will help design and implement back-end services, integrate with complex system components, follow established engineering practices, and work within Department of Defense (DoD) software development policies and standards. You’ll collaborate closely with senior developers and engineers to deliver high-quality, maintainable software that supports mission objectives.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain scalable, modular back-end software components using MOSA-aligned (Modular Open Systems Approach) principles.
  • Design and implement secure, efficient back-end services, data processing flows, and APIs.
  • Integrate with other system components and services within a distributed architecture.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers and fellow developers to ensure alignment with system requirements and technical constraints.
  • Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, design discussions, and continuous integration efforts.
  • Ensure software meets performance, reliability, and security requirements.
  • Follow best practices for secure coding, documentation, and maintainability.
  • Travel: Occasional travel may be required for collaboration, customer engagement, or system integration events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3-5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Familiarity with MOSA principles or modular/component-based architectures (experience a plus).
  • Experience working in or exposure to DevSecOps practices, including secure coding, automated testing, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience building back-end services or system components in languages such as Java, .NET, C#, C++, Python, or similar.
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices concepts, and container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Awareness of software security principles and automated testing practices.
  • Effective problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • US citizenship with an active Secret security clearance.
