Job description
- Lead the decommissioning and retirement of Windows/Wintel infrastructure, including servers, VMs, and legacy environments.
- Assess existing infrastructure and determine dependencies before systems are migrated or shut down.
- Support data center, infrastructure, and cloud migration/decommissioning initiatives.
- Coordinate with application, infrastructure, network, security, and cloud teams to safely retire systems.
- Document decommissioning plans, dependencies, risks, and completion activities., Sourcing tip: I would prioritize resumes containing terms like “server decommissioning,” “data center migration,” “data center exit,” “server retirement,” “Wintel migration,” “VMware migration,” and “infrastructure modernization.” Those will likely get you closer than searching “cloud architect” alone.
Requirements
- Strong Windows Server / Wintel infrastructure experience.
- Hands-on experience with server decommissioning, migrations, upgrades, or infrastructure modernization.
- Experience with VMware/virtualized environments.
- Understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, networking, storage, and server dependencies.
- Exposure to Azure, AWS, or other cloud environments is preferred.
- Strong infrastructure architecture and troubleshooting skills., A senior Windows/Wintel infrastructure engineer or architect who has worked on large-scale server retirement, data center exit, cloud migration, or infrastructure modernization projects.
