Job description
A growing SaaS company with a lean engineering team is hiring its second engineer to work alongside the CTO. The platform’s backend is already built as an internal API. Your first project is to open it to customers by designing and building a public-facing REST API and an MCP server, so customers can build on the platform and connect it to their own AI tools.
After this project, the work shifts to full-stack product development, so we’re looking for someone we can keep working with long-term.
What you’ll do
- Design and build a public REST API on top of the existing internal API: endpoints, versioning, rate limiting, and error handling
- Implement authentication and authorization flows for external customers (OAuth 2.0, API keys, scoped access)
- Build an MCP server/connector that exposes the API to AI agents and LLM tools
- Write clear, customer-facing API documentation in English
- Collaborate directly with the CTO and contribute to future full-stack projects
Requirements
RESTful APINode.jsJavaScriptOAuth 2.0, * 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js
- Proven experience designing and building backend APIs in production
- Hands-on experience with authentication flows (OAuth 2.0, token management, API key auth)
- Excellent written and spoken English. You’ll be writing customer-facing documentation
- Able to work independently in a small team with limited oversight, * Shipped a production public or partner-facing API
- Built an MCP server/connector or other AI-agent integrations
- Experience with enterprise integrations
- Comfortable with frontend work (React or similar). It’s not required for this project, but most future projects are full-stack
