Job description

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide high-level technical leadership, software architecture expertise, and Subject Matter Expert (SME) guidance across integrated Scrum teams supporting F-35 Mission Planning Environment (MPE) engineering. This is a high-impact, hands-on architectural and technical leadership role focused on designing, modernizing, and scaling distributed microservices, containerized platforms on Kubernetes, cloud and hybrid infrastructure, enterprise automation frameworks, secure CI/CD pipelines, and multi-language software engineering.

The successful candidate will serve as a lead technical authority and SME across integrated Scrum teams and a key partner to Chief Architects; turning architectural vision into robust, production-ready capabilities while elevating the engineering organization’s technical maturity and execution velocity. This individual will lead cross-cutting architectural initiatives, design modular microservices, establish container orchestration and cloud infrastructure patterns, modernize CI/CD and automation frameworks, mentor senior and mid-level engineers, resolve complex system integration challenges, and establish durable, scalable engineering practices across the program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience (Master’s preferred)
  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated technical leadership in software architecture and distributed systems
  • Expertise in designing, decomposing, and delivering scalable microservices, distributed systems architectures and virtualization (VMWare, HyperV)
  • Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes (deployment manifests, Helm charts, stateful/stateless workloads, cluster networking, service discovery) and container orchestration
  • Proven experience architecting and managing cloud/hybrid infrastructure using IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Experience integrating distributed systems through REST APIs, message brokers, event-driven architectures, and strong troubleshooting across Kubernetes, networks, and/or OS (Linux/Windows)
  • Ability to produce clear architectural documentation, communicate complex topics to diverse stakeholders

Desired Skills

  • Knowlegde of MPE (Mission Planning Environment) Software
  • Strong polyglot programming experience across multiple modern languages: Python, C#/.NET, Java, TypeScript/React/JavaScript
  • Knowlegde of enterprise CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks (unit/integration/system), DevSecOps, SAST, SCA, and vulnerability scanning
  • Create architectural decision records (ADRs), interface control documents, and repeatable onboarding and training materials to reduce reliance on single-person expertise.
  • Proven experience serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) across integrated Scrum teams in an Agile environment.
