Software Engineer

Our client is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to serve as the technical lead and primary owner of a critical enterprise application supporting thousands of insurance agents across the organization.

This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader who combines strong Java development skills with deep SQL Server expertise. The successful candidate will take ownership of application architecture, development, support, and ongoing enhancements while providing technical direction to a small team.

The application manages agent hierarchies, contracts, licensing, territories, writing authority, and other business-critical insurance data and is used broadly throughout the organization.

Rate: $72.00 to $80.00/hr. w2

What You’ll Do

• Serve as the primary technical owner of a mission-critical enterprise application
• Lead design, development, maintenance, and support efforts across the application stack
• Drive technical decisions and provide leadership to UI, middleware, and database developers
• Design and develop scalable Java-based business applications and web services
• Build and support RESTful APIs, middleware integrations, and service-layer architecture
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex production issues
• Develop and execute large-scale data updates and operational database requests
• Write, optimize, and tune complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and data scripts
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
• Ensure software quality through code reviews, testing, documentation, and best practices
• Identify performance bottlenecks and implement improvements to application scalability and reliability
• Support application enhancements, data migrations, and ongoing production operations, The ideal candidate is not simply a Java developer or a database developer. They are a technical leader who can:
• Own an enterprise application end-to-end
• Write advanced SQL without relying solely on frameworks or ORMs
• Design and support middleware and web services
• Lead technical discussions and drive work independently
• Take initiative and operate with minimal oversight
• Balance hands-on development with application ownership responsibilities

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• Proven experience serving as a technical lead, application owner, or senior engineer responsible for end-to-end system delivery
• Strong Java/J2EE development experience
• Experience with Spring MVC, REST services, JMS, Mule ESB, MyBatis, XML, XSLT, SOAP, Maven, JSON, and related technologies
• Strong front-end development experience with Angular 11+, TypeScript, JavaScript, Bootstrap, and PrimeNG
• Expert-level SQL Server experience
• Experience writing complex SQL queries, joins, stored procedures, and large-scale update scripts
• Strong understanding of SQL performance tuning, data analysis, and database design
• Experience supporting business data requests and operational data maintenance activities
• Experience working across the full software development lifecycle
• Excellent communication, leadership, and xrbllit stakeholder management skills
