Job description

We are looking for a skilled Content Designer to step into a high-impact digital transformation squad delivering critical public sector tools.

Your main focus will be transforming intricate policies, legal guidance, and dense regulatory workflows into simple, intuitive, and task-focused digital guidance. You will be designing content that helps everyday citizens navigate complex government interactions smoothly and efficiently.

Embedded directly within a multidisciplinary squad collaborating daily with User Researchers, Interaction Designers, Service Designers, Product Leads, and Developers you will help shape the service from initial discovery all the way through to live launch, using real user testing and data to validate every word.

Core Responsibilities

  • User Journey Creation: Plan, draft, and refine end-to-end content journeys across web applications and complementary channels.
  • Research-Led Iteration: Interrogate research findings, analytics, and service metrics to make grounded design choices and justify them to the wider team.
  • De-risking Complexity: Unpick complicated legislation, technical constraints, and policy documents, turning them into plain English that anyone can follow.
  • Agile Delivery: Active participation in agile ceremonies, contributing content expertise from discovery phases through to live operational support.
  • Prototyping & Validation: Build content prototypes, observe user research sessions, and rapidly iterate based on actionable feedback.
  • Stakeholder Negotiation: Build strong relationships with policy owners, legal partners, and operational leaders to balance regulatory intent with user needs.
  • Inclusive Design: Embed accessibility best practices into content right from the start to ensure equitable access for all users.
  • Design Standards: Support internal content guidelines and share best practices with the broader design discipline.

Requirements

  • Proven background shaping digital user journeys built on clear user research.
  • Experience using data, analytics, and usability research to defend and refine content choices.
  • Track record of simplifying heavily regulated or technical information for non-expert audiences.
  • Comfort working in fast-moving agile cross-functional squads.
  • Confident stakeholder manager who can champion the user’s voice against delivery constraints.
  • Deep commitment to designing for diverse user needs and accessibility standards.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to clearly articulate design rationale.
  • Practical understanding of basic HTML and web content structure.
  • Solid grasp of WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility requirements and public sector digital compliance.
