Job description

DecisionPoint seeks two API/Integration Engineers to design, build, test, document, and maintain reusable APIs, interface adapters, and data exchanges for the USMEPCOM ENLIST program. These roles support interoperability across the assigned application portfolio and help ensure that mission systems exchange information securely, accurately, and reliably.

The API/Integration Engineers maintain interface specifications, data mappings, and contract tests; support application and data migration; diagnose integration failures; and coordinate technical solutions across development, architecture, data, testing, cybersecurity, cloud, and Government stakeholder teams., The API/Integration Engineers will:

  • Design, develop, test, document, deploy, and maintain reusable APIs, integration services, interface adapters, and data exchanges.

  • Translate approved requirements, interface needs, business rules, and system constraints into secure integration solutions.

  • Develop interfaces that support reliable data exchange across applications, services, databases, cloud environments, and external systems.

  • Develop reusable integration components, shared services, transformation logic, and error-handling patterns.

  • Prepare and maintain interface specifications, interface control information, API documentation, data mappings, schemas, and transformation rules.

  • Define and document request and response structures, validation rules, error responses, dependencies, authentication requirements, and performance expectations.

  • Develop and maintain unit tests, integration tests, contract tests, regression tests, and representative test data.

  • Verify interface behavior against approved specifications, schemas, mappings, and service contracts.

  • Coordinate with consuming and providing systems to validate interoperability and resolve interface discrepancies.

  • Apply secure coding practices to APIs, adapters, integration services, and data-processing components.

  • Implement approved authentication, authorization, encryption, certificate, logging, and data-protection controls.

  • Support application, interface, platform, and data migration activities.

  • Analyze legacy interfaces and develop migration, replacement, coexistence, or transition approaches.

  • Support integration planning, cutover preparation, migration validation, and post-transition verification.

  • Monitor, investigate, and troubleshoot interface failures, data mismatches, timeouts, authentication errors, schema violations, and processing exceptions.

  • Perform root-cause analysis and implement durable corrective actions for recurring integration problems.

  • Develop appropriate retry, reconciliation, exception-management, alerting, and recovery capabilities.

  • Coordinate integration troubleshooting with application, database, network, cloud, cybersecurity, and external-system teams.

  • Participate in peer reviews, code reviews, design reviews, interface reviews, and architecture discussions.

  • Use approved version-control practices, including branching, commits, pull requests, merges, and release tagging.

  • Support continuous integration, automated testing, deployment pipelines, and release-management activities.

  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, configuration information, deployment instructions, known limitations, and troubleshooting procedures.

  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily coordination, demonstrations, reviews, retrospectives, and release-readiness activities.

  • Provide implementation estimates and identify interface dependencies, technical risks, assumptions, constraints, and external decisions.

  • Support Government demonstrations, user acceptance testing, operational validation, and stakeholder feedback.

  • Protect sensitive data and comply with applicable federal, DoD, security, privacy, records-management, and configuration-management requirements.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of API governance, interoperability, testing, documentation, monitoring, and integration practices.

Requirements

Candidates must possess all the following:

  • An active Secret clearance or higher.

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, software engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent permitted by the applicable labor category.

  • At least six years of relevant professional experience.

  • Experience developing, testing, and maintaining software applications.

  • Experience designing, developing, integrating, or consuming APIs.

  • Experience developing and maintaining unit tests.

  • Experience applying secure coding principles.

  • Experience using version-control systems and structured source-code management practices.

  • Experience developing or maintaining interfaces, adapters, integration services, or data exchanges.

  • Ability to prepare and maintain interface specifications, API documentation, data mappings, schemas, or transformation rules.

  • Ability to develop or maintain contract tests and validate interoperability between systems.

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve integration failures, data-mapping issues, interface errors, and system dependencies.

  • A relevant software-development or cloud certification from a recognized provider.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, architects, data specialists, testers, cybersecurity personnel, platform engineers, external-system teams, and Government stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, technical documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience supporting federal or Department of Defense software-development, systems-integration, or modernization programs.

  • Experience integrating mission-critical, regulated, security-sensitive, or high-availability systems.

  • Experience developing RESTful APIs, web services, asynchronous integrations, event-driven services, or message-based integrations.

  • Experience with OpenAPI specifications, JSON Schema, XML Schema, or comparable interface-definition standards.

  • Experience with API gateways, service meshes, enterprise service buses, integration platforms, or message brokers.

  • Experience with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, mutual TLS, public key infrastructure, tokens, certificates, or comparable API-security mechanisms.

  • Experience with Java, C#, .NET, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, or comparable development technologies.

  • Experience with relational databases, structured query languages, data transformation, or data-validation technologies.

  • Experience with cloud integration services in AWS, Azure, or another approved cloud environment.

  • Experience with containers, microservices, serverless services, or cloud-native integration patterns.

  • Experience with contract-testing tools, API-testing tools, automated test frameworks, or service-virtualization technologies.

  • Experience with continuous integration, continuous delivery, automated deployment, and DevSecOps practices.

  • Experience using Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence, GitHub, GitLab, or comparable development and collaboration tools.

  • Familiarity with DoD security requirements, DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides, interface-control processes, configuration management, and release controls.

  • Experience supporting data migration, application modernization, or transition from legacy interfaces.
