Job description

As the Senior HVAC Systems Service Specialist (Rover), you will be the go-to expert for preventive and corrective HVAC work across multiple sites within your region. You’ll drive a company-provided vehicle between facilities, troubleshoot complex systems, complete precise CMMS documentation, and mentor teammates-keeping critical environments safe, comfortable, and compliant.

A Day in the Life

Your morning may start with reviewing CMMS work orders and planning your route to two facilities. By mid-day, you could be replacing belts on an air-handling unit, tuning a VAV box for proper airflow, and inspecting gas- and oil-fired water-tube boilers and auxiliary equipment (pumps, de-aerating tanks, air compressor blowers). In the afternoon, you might diagnose a controls issue, escort a subcontractor, verify code compliance, and log all work details in the CMMS-wrapping up by walking a junior tech through safe testing and measurement procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance from CMMS-generated work orders; document work thoroughly and accurately.
  • Install, service, and maintain HVAC machinery and mechanical equipment: motors, engines, pumps, belts, fans, air-handling units, VAVs, and fan-powered boxes.
  • Ensure safe operation of environmental control systems and stationary equipment, including electronic/pneumatic controls and water-tube boilers with related auxiliaries.
  • Diagnose environmental controls and stationary systems using proper inspection, testing, and monitoring techniques; use tools safely and correctly.
  • Work to CGL Facility Maintenance standards and OSHA/client safety procedures at all times; maintain a clean, safe work area.
  • Inspect completed work-your own and others’-for compliance with local building and safety codes.
  • Escort subcontractors while they perform onsite tasks; verify scope and quality.
  • Provide mentorship, training, and oversight to HVAC and General Trades technicians; cross-train teammates in fundamentals of your trade.
  • Travel to additional facilities within the region to resolve specific maintenance issues.
  • Complete assigned compliance, safety, and professional development training.
  • Drive between sites as part of daily duties using a company vehicle.

Driving requirement: This position requires driving for the Company using either 1) a Company vehicle, at any frequency from Rarely to Constantly; or, 2) a Personal or Rental vehicle to conduct Company business more than 50% of the time to perform work duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required., * 5+ years of commercial HVAC and building maintenance required.
  • Refrigeration experience preferred.
  • Prior experience leading or coaching others preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge across trades: electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and general facility maintenance.
  • Ability to read blueprints and as-built drawings.
  • Willing and able to take occasional on-call assignments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and aptitude with CMMS tools.
  • Self-directed team player with strong prioritization, multitasking, and interpersonal communication skills; client-facing poise is essential.
  • Rapidly learn facility layouts, system locations, and operating procedures for environmental controls.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid, in-state Driver’s License.
  • EPA 608 Certification.
  • HVAC Certification.
